When it comes to rare Corvettes, I think it’s pretty safe to say you can put this one right there at the top of the list.

Even if you aren’t a fan of its old-school Batmobile-like styling cues, it’s hard to dispute the rarity factor of a Corvette priced at $6.8 million for an upcoming auction.

One of only three models ever produced, the 1956 Corvette SR-2 (code name for Sebring Racer or Special Racer) was first designed to compete with brands like Ferrari and Porsche at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The car will be showcased at the Scottsdale Sport & Classic Autocars from January 12 to 14.

In addition to the unique aerodynamic design elements, the SR-2 also features a larger 331-cubic-inch engine as well as a lighter body for better performance on the track. However, with a price tag of nearly $7 million, I doubt it has seen much road time in recent years considering the slightest accident in this baby could cost a few hundred grand to repair.
