Looks like Corvette police cars are the hot new trend.

After reporting on that new German C7 police car, we stumbled on this 1999 Corvette owned by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. But unlike the one in Germany that started out as a police project car, this C5 was confiscated by authorities and then converted into a crime fighting machine.

The Corvette was seized by the Sheriff’s department after the owner led police on a high-speed chase and was arrested with drug paraphernalia and controlled substances, according to a Citrus County Chronicle report.

After confiscating the Corvette, the authorities put $10,000 into repairing the car and adding the necessary features to transform it into a tool to raise awareness for drug and crime prevention. More specifically, the Corvette is used as part of Citrus County’s Filtering Out Crime United with Students, or FOCUS, a program serving schools in the area.
