Beware: Ambien Might Flip You Into a Shelby GT350-Buying Ford Fan

Corvette Forum member Sublime1996525, who is indeed a Corvette owner, was, for one reason or another, searching for the new Shelby GT350 online. He said he’d been dreaming of buying one, but his wife had other plans for the necessary cash to buy Ford’s new track toy. So, like a good husband, he hadn’t set out to buy one. Then he took an Ambien.

If you’re familiar with Ambien, or Zolpidem, you know it’s a sleep aide, sometimes called a sedative or hypnotic. You also might know that, if you stay awake after taking such a drug, things tend to get a little, ummm… let’s say trippy.

Sublime supposedly has an extremely rough time sleeping and usually can’t even fall asleep for an hour or two after popping one of these things. So, he browses on his phone, half conscious. Browsing includes looking for dream cars on eBay, like this 2017 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 in striking Grabber Blue. Such practices can be particularly dangerous, because, if you don’t know what you’re really doing, you might possibly just screw around and think it’s a great idea to put in a bid for said Shelby. And then you might just win, like Sublime did when he posted an offer of $50,300.00.

Now, according to him, he has no real recollection of this and blames it entirely on the Ambien. Which is absolutely hilarious; I would love to see the look on his wife’s face when he tries to explain this mishap. Oh, and on top of that, it’s apparently not the first time this has happened. Here’s the tale in his own words:

“If you’ve seen my posts I’ve been dreaming of getting a GT350 and my wife isn’t 100% on board because she wants to a) get a new house, and b) keep the Raptor.

Well in my Ambiened state last night I made a bid on a 2017 grabber blue with white stripe GT350 on eBay and the bid was accepted. This is so ridiculous it’s funny. I need to call the dealer and tell them it will probably be a no unless the wife is in love it the color then maybe I have a chance. More than likely she is going to tell me I’m an idiot and ban me from my phone at night.

This is the second time I’ve done this, about a year ago I bought $400 worth of N64 games on Ambien. That she let slide, this one I don’t think she will. So for those looking to take a sleep aid, hide your phone at night!”

Seems like pretty good advice, right?
