If your brakes are squeaking and driving you crazy, here is what finally worked for me. After trying 3 different brands of pads and each set being quiet for 3 days only to start squeaking again, I removed the pads and applied blue Permatex to the backs of all the pads. Let the Permatex \"set up\" on the pad for 1/2 hour or so and install the pads. Wait at least 2 to 3 hours

1984 to 1996 C-4 Door Handle Re-New / Reconditioning After years of use in the harsh Canadian climate, (summer, winter, fall, spring) my C-4 door handles have fallen victim to finish cracks, stone chips and fading. The finish chips and cracks revealed the grayish colored aluminum underneath. It looked really bad! I considered replacing the handles but decided not too because of the expense and amount of time involved. My biggest fear however, was the

Another tip from a Gordon Killebrew lecture during Corvettes at Carlisle 2001. Say your L98 starts right up after sitting for a long while, such as overnight, but is hard to start after sitting for a little while. Before trying to start it, hold the accelerator to the floor for a brief period and release it. If the engine then starts right up it\'s a sign that an injector may be leaking, causing a flooding

A very common problem with the C4 sport seat is the failure of the pump that inflates the lumbar bladders internal to the back of the seat. The most prevalent failure is not the pump assembly, but simply the diaphragm within the pump sub-assembly. To gain access to the pump, look under the front of the seat and there will be a wire clip that holds the bottom seat cushion in place. Push this clip

In front of the water pump pulley on 1988 and later L98s resides a rather large 10lb steel disk, lovingly refered to as the "frisbee". 1) First, relocate the the intake air temperature sensor to the air clearer duct. The hot coolant also heats the air in the summer months. So, if you don't live in a freezing climate, here is a very simple procedure that anyone can perform with a screw

I was replacing my bushings with Energy Suspensions Hyperflex Kit 84-95vette.When you install the new one piece bushing for the upper a-arm they show you a diagram using an arbor press and how to place them on the rod that runs through them. The one side is two piece and easy to do. The opposite end has to be pressed in after the other is assembled. It will not go in with a hammer

How to Repair & Rebuild your Alternator by Lars Grimsrud SVE Automotive Restoration Musclecar, Collector & Exotic Auto Repair & Restoration Broomfield, CO This tech paper will discuss the disassembly, diagnostics, and repair of GM Delco alternators used after 1971, and specifically discuss the alternators used from 1971 to 1988. Alternators used after 1988 are similar, and the same techniques and principles apply (called the "CS" alternators). Alternators fail frequently, and good rebuilt units are

by John Richman How do you get under a C4 to change oil & filter? Conventional ramps are too steep and perilously slip. I made a set in the Fall in a few nights for under $45. Start with 10 clean 2x6x8 pine boards. Mark 27\" in from each end and draw a line from top to bottom. Saw all 10 on that line. That gives you 20 sections. Glue and using threaded rod,

Many Corvette owners on CorvetteForum.com have complained about "windshield wiper collisions" and offered various solutions for curing the problem ranging from replacing the 20" wiper blades with 18" units to re-adjusting the wiper drivetrain. None of the recommended solutions seem to work in every case. Replacing the wiper blades proved difficult because even if you could find shorter replacement blades that would fit the wiper arms, they were often too tall to fit under

Gordon Killebrew www.gordonkillebrew.com and Ron Kane www.kaneauto.com taught this class in June of 03. Here are the notes I took: When replacing weatherstrip use GM parts for a 95/96. These are the latest designs and will fit and work best. When doing wiring you can prevent corrosion at the joints by using metal connectors from a computer supply store. Use a roll crimper from SnapOn or Packard/Delphi and then shrink tube. The fuel apron around

Banished squeaks from my top today. First remove the trim from the windshield header. Next, loosen the mounts on the top itself, front and rear. Next, snug the top down normally, but leave the front and rear bolts finger tight. Then loosen both front windshield mounts (the part on the windshield frame itself). Then take a ride, and let the top jiggle around until it finds its happy place. Then tighten the front mounts on

For those of you experiencing difficulty with the 1 to 4 shift lock-out, or for those of you who wish to experience shifting through all your six gears, here is a simple fix: on the passenger side, just in front of the fire wall, and mounted on the fender well, is a relay, that when disconnected, will disable the 1 to 4 lock-out allowing you a very smooth shift transition through all 6 gears. Simply

The credit for this tip really belongs to FrankD. I was getting annoyed with my headlights constantly flipping on and off on my c4 every time i drove through the shade. My car was originally a Canadian car, and had no way to shut this feature off. To disable the lights, carefully pull the light sensor located directly above the speedometer out of the dash to expose the 2 wires running in to it. Place

Buy a $4 clear plastic fuel filter. Buy a $3 tube of premium black Permatex RTV, because it withstands the highest temps. Reserve a long day to fiddle around. Here\'s how it all goes together: 1a)Disassemble and clean the inner and outer cap & rotor assembly

Due to several e-mail inquiries, here are the instructions for removing the power antenna motor for service BEFORE installing a new antenna mast on 1992-1996 Corvettes. Many owners (myself included) have tried in vain to simply install a new antenna ribbon without inspecting the motor first for broken sections of the old one. The usual result is an antenna that won't fully raise or retract, even though the motor works fine. Hopefully, this tech tip

In June of 03 I attended a C4 workshop at Bloomington Gold taught by Ron Kane and Gordon Killebrew. When asked the question: \"Which tires are best for all around use on the C4?\" They both stated that their customers and clients seemed to be very happy with Firestone Firehawks. They have great traction, good life, run very quiet, and ride smooth.

Parts: None (hopefully) Estimate time: 10 minutes per side. Tools Needed: Phillips Screwdriver, Loctite, Dielectric Silicon Preliminary Information: The mirrors are held to the adjusting motor by a small + shaped piece called a pinion. The pinion attaches to retainers on both mirror and motor. There are two threaded rods attached to the mirror, one on the outer portion and the other on the bottom. These treaded rods are inserted into the motor for adjustment.

The engine in my 93 is basically stock, and I do not foresee my going into the motor in the near future. The main reason I wanted to change the Eprom was to lower the temperature at which the cooling fans turned on, I did not like the factory setting of 226, and to raise the MPH at which the transmission shifted into overdrive. I did not like the extra wear on the transmission as

Thanks to TomH91 for the tip (and promise that it would work). I replaced my front hub bearings with 1994 Firebird parts. Why? Cuz the SKF bearings are in stock at Pep Boys for $109 and the vette parts have disappeared at prices below $200. What\'s the difference? Hardly anything. The Firebird flange that bolts to the knuckle is over 1/8\" thicker, but the dimensions between the faces of the flanges is identical. So we

I have a 1992 LT1 that had a very random start problem. Fuel Pressure was Ok, Spark to plugs was fine, no error codes were set in ECM. Once the car started it ran fine. Finally took a #47 (12Volt) bulb and put it across the fuel injector wires. Found that when the car was dead the lamp never lit at any cylinder. But when it started I could see the ECM lighting the lamp.

Lowering the ride height on your 84-96 Corvette by Bill Rauch Whenever I think about lowering a car, the old Cheech & Chong movie pops to mind that begins with Chong strutting around his "Chebby" dusting it off to the tune of "Low, Low, Low - Low Rider".
