User Tech Tips
Please note that this process was written by C5-TECH. Since there was not a tech tip for the C5 yet and the overwhelming response to a thread I posted regarding this issue...I thought you all could benefit from the pictures of my decarb. 1. Disconnect the pcv line by the throttle body and insert a long funnel into the vaccum source end. 2. SLOWLY pour 2 cans of GM top engine cleaner into the funnel
Ive been a motor head for 45 years...IM a detailer, waxer.... and generally really anal about my cars... one nick.. stone chip upsets me..Anyway after so many years .. yesterday i tried something on my C5 that impressed me.... anyway here it the simple tech tip... To fix a chip.. you have to clean out the chip.. with some precleano.. or even an eraser... then take a small amount of touch up paint.. I bought
Report on Bassani \"Off-Road\" X-pipe setup for my 2001 Z06 (This was recently posted on the C5 Registry listserve and I received several questions which prompted some revisions and updates included here.) 1. Description, quality, fit & finish, price Bassani makes an \"off road\" X-pipe setup that is particularly handy for those who want to be able to go back and forth to stock if need be. It actually consists of two Bassani pieces, the
You can acess all of the cars trouble codes from the dic and erase them! I know it works on my 99 but, I am not so sure on the earlier C5's. Here is what you do: Press and hold options and then press Fuel 4 times while still holding the options button you must do this quickly. A message will appear saying "Diagonstics" then it will automatically read off the codes. Like....02-PCM(No codes)....03-BCM(No Codes)...ect.
First step is to plan your entire job out before you do anything! Know what you are doing and what result you want. You are going to be cutting into the SMC of the car, and once you cut there's no turning back! You've got to do it right the first time! For those of you still with me, here we go. 1. Tape of the area where the "scoop" will go. 2. The place
It seems to be quite a common problem for the passenger window motor to stop working. The problem seems to stem from the fact that the window does not get used very often. Try to use the windows at least once a week to keep the motors in good working order. My \'99 widow stuck recently and the best tip I received was to hold the door window button just as you close the door
8-19-01 How to lower the front of your Z06 LOWER than just tightening the front bolts will allow... First step, make sure the car is jacked up securely, you put on the parking break, and you block the rear tires. Pull of the wheel and get ready to work. It makes the job easier if you keep your keys in the cars ignition to prevent the steering wheel from locking, that way you can turn
The stock Corvette exhaust system works well and sounds pretty good. Actually, it's sounds polite and politically correct. From my first test drive, I thought that the exhaust note was a little weak, even under wide open throttle. Heck, my Mustang's stock exhaust (gasp!) had more grunt. Not being a civilized type of person, I went looking for replacement options. Corsa makes the exhaust system for the Corvette Indy Pace Car. I talked to people
Introduction. I basically followed this post http://www.c5-corvette.com/c5_alarm.htm The only thing I did different was placing the shock sensor against the drive tunnel - still effective but much easier that way. Materials. Youll need a shock sensor. Ive used a CodeAlram IR-S shock sensor, which I got from a local CodeAlarm dealer for $30. The sensor has four wires: Black ground, Red 12 V, Brown and Yellow are signal wires. The shock operates by
(I thought I'd post a message about installing a HUD into a 1997 Corvette. I just went through this process, and thought it might be helpful for others contemplating the same upgrade) First, you will need a HUD projector, and a HUD-enabled instrument cluster. You can get these items from a 1999 or newer Corvette. It will be easiest if you purchase a HUD and Cluster as one unit, as you will then be sure
A forum member emailed me for tips on installing these screens. I copied and pasted my reply here for all to see. Hope this helps. First of all, you need to remove the black plastic housing from each of the headlights...turn on the headlights, then switch them off so that just your parking lights are on and the headlights stay up. (HINT: Turn OFF your foglights) There are three little phillips head screws holding the
The C5 Corvette comes with Platinum Tip "100,000 Mile" AC -Delco Plugs. It also comes with about 7mm, carbon resistor based, plug wires. To me the C5 LS1 deserves better SPARK PLUGS: I chose to go with NGK TR55 Solid Copper Core plugs. I got them from my local O-Reilly Parts store. They are only a couple of bucks each. These plugs match the heat range of the stock plugs and are cross-referenceable to the

My C5 recently was exhibiting hydraulic clutch problems. It was not releasing all the way causing hard shifting and grinding gears! I checked the fluid in the master cylinder and it was at the right level but it was dirty! It was dark gray and pieces of something were floating in it. After posting a question to the CorvetteForum, several other C5 owners were exhibiting the same problems. Is the seal on the cap deteriorating?

The first picture shows the driver's side, "Start to remove", position. The visor is down like you would put it, to block the sun from coming in the windshield. Stick the correct size screwdriver into the slot, on the bezel ring, as shown. Rotate the sun visor counterclockwise, towards the driver's side window. When you do this the sun visor's iron shaft will press on the screwdriver shaft. All of these things (visor, screwdriver and
Thanks goes out to DV-8 (aka Johnny) from Houston. He was kind enough to help out and take some good pics. Tools Needed: 10mm wrench and/or socket and ratchet small flathead screwdriver. Installation summary: Remove the fuel rail covers (if you have them). I hadn't driven it for about 24hrs, so I placed a rag over the end of the fuel rail pressure relief valve, and pressed the valve to depressurize the system. It had
All 1997 to 2000 C5\'s have a very potential battery leakage problem. The problem isn\'t so much that the battery leaks, but that it leaks on the computer, wiring harness, frame and one vacuum hose for the A/C controls. The battery tray is open in the center, and will direct the acid straight onto your computer! This can become an expensive repair, and is NOT covered by any extended warranty. If your car is still

I used this message forwarded from a fellow forum memeber and it worked just as described. Thought I would post for anyone else that may need to reset their TPMs. 1) Turn ignition on 2) Press \"Reset\" button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages 3) Press and release the \"Options\" button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank 4) Press and hold the DIC
For those of you wanting to have an X pipe, but don\'t want to cut up your stock setup, Bassani offers a combination of pipes that will allow you to bolt on an xpipe, get rid of those pesky cats, save weight, and as a bonus release raw LS1/LS6 exhausts into the atmosphere! I have a 2000 FRC, and after a year of holding out and keeping it stock, I finally gave in and purchased

Here is the Donaldson Blackwing install for a 2001. I did not see anyone go into detail on installing one so I thought I may as well post some pics as I went. You all know what the stock cleaner looks like so I am skipping that one. The first one is a picture of the complete unit as I took it out of the car. Next is a shot of the end of the
This document should be used as a General "Guideline" as there are numerous things that can affect these instructions: 1)The type of C5 being tubbed (ie. Coupe, Hardtop, Convertible), 2)The type of fiberglass being used, 3)The type resin being used, 4)The type of tools available WARNING: Anyone attempting to tub their Corvette by following these instructions does so at their own risk. If you don't feel comfortable performing this task yourself then please hire a
Please note: I installed a C5 rolled exhaust plate from Xtreme Motorsports. I am confident that this tech tip will work for others as well, but check measurments first to be sure. Sorry there are no pics, my sister borrowed my digital camera. One other tip: Don\'t say to yourself \"this would be a great time to polish the exhaust plate before I put it under the car.\" It is shiny enough already. Just wipe
If you plan to install a non factory transaxle (3.42, 3.73, etc) in your automatic equipped C-5, you will also need a computer upgrade. Without the computer upgrade, your shift points will be hosed. For example, your car will not shift before redline and will bounce off the rev limiter, then shift. This is not ideal ! Several vendors sell computer upgrades including (in no particular order), Hypertech, TTS/Steve Cole, and Doug Rippie Motorsports). Note:
Just installed the antenna two days ago. Get the GM power antenna, and bracket(order mine from Fichtner). Also need two screws to attach the bracket to the bottom of the antenna. The rear two tail lights need to be removed. Very simple install. The fixed comes out after disconnecting the signal coaxial wire at the inside right rear connection, and two grounding straps. The power for the antenna is more complex. The antenna has four

In my case it looked like this: After a while it bothers me, and i ordered a set of new side seat bezels at Ken Fichtners Chevrolet. Here is how i did the job: REMOVAL Procedure: - Move the seat
1. Pulling on the steering wheel clockwise with the key in the off position. 2. And then while still pulling in the same direction (clockwise), clicked the key to ON. Notes: I got this tip from \"cjones\". Is worked like a charm on my car. Cheers -Tuan
- Relieve the pressure in the fuel line at the rail. - Disconnect the battery. - Raise the rear of the car, best done from the rear subframe. - IF you have an A4 space it tight and it helps if you remove the catback portion of the exhaust on the drivers side. - The filter is just up under the frame in front of the drivers side rear wheel - Remove the bolt holding
So I pick up my brand new 2001 C5 Coupe at the NCM and what's the first thing I do to it? Why, drill holes in it, of course! This is a brief photo log of the process of applying Altec's moulded plastic splash guards to a C5. The Altecs are available from Mid America Designs (MAD) in both black plastic and color-matched painted (for some colors.) At the time I purchased them, MAD

The Corvette Forum has brought me hours of enjoyment and great information for my 2000 FRC. It is only right that I put some time back into the forum. Below is a description and some photos on how I did the tubbing on my car. After looking at the availability of tires at the time of building my project car I decided that the Michelin Pilot Sport 335 30 18 on 12 inch wide HRE
SLP Engineering makes an exhaust system called the Loudmouth, which is basically a rear section with no mufflers. While I like the idea, I really don\'t like the tips that come on it, and I also really didn\'t feel like spending $500+ for something I could build myself. So I decided to build my own custom \"Loudmouth\". Here\'s a list of the parts you will need if you decide to do this: over axle pipes
I have installed two sets of Melrose LT headers in C5\'s. These go in with minimum hassel and work great. To finish the job you need the following items: One 3\" \'U\' bend. Four 3\" header flanges Any decent 110 MIG welder w/mixed gas (use nothing larger than .022 MIG wire). Skill saw w/ abrasive cut-off disk (Home Depot) One coat hanger 1) Put the car on a lift or jack stands. 2) Remove the
T his information came from Alan Barbic (California Quicksilver) I also went through the same frustration in the \"great search\" for the elusive three wired connector. You are not delusional.. It was not in my 98 vert either. I went over the wiring diagrams in the factory service manuals and was able to establish the role our elusive three wires play in the equation. I resolved the problem by thinking a bit out of the
There is a opening at the lower bearing where you can inject lithium grease. This will eliminate the rubbing or squeaking noise when the steering wheel is turned.
This tech tip is for those of you who, like me, are sick of having water, dirt, dust, etc. accumulate around the edges of our C5\'s tail lights. After trying a few things, I found that a silicone rubber door gasket did the trick. The product is made by \"M-D Building Products\" and called \"Tear Drop Profile Ultra Weatherseal: Silicone Rubber Door Gasket - 1/4\" Thick by 1/2\" Wide and 20\" Long.\" I found this
Valentine One Install By Cy Stanton (Dittohead) The following procedure is for hard wiring the Valentine One (V1) Radar Detector in the C5 (all models), thus eliminating the ugly cord hanging down from your V1 to the cig lighter. We will start by wiring the direct wire power adaptor that came with your V1, to the aux power plug located under the kick board on the passenger side, then we will mount the V1 and
I just copied this into this section of the tech tips so it is not lost in the archives.... it is great info that I think should be placed here... I have dont this without 99HT\'s permission but I hope that will not be a problem.... Now here you go.... C5 Bose CD or cassette upgrade wiring notes Bose CD/Cassette Stereo System Info: The C5 Bose stereo system is based on a modified Delco head
Here is a how-to primer for installing a shift knob on a C5 Corvette. The knob used in this example is the Phantom Shift Knob with the Kung-Fu... er... Pistol Grip and C5 logo available from Mid America Designs. The cost was $49.95 less 15% since it was ordered at Chevy Vette Fest in Chicago last Saturday (3-4-2000). I replaced the stock knob because it seemed a bit large in my oh, so delicate
Add mp3 playback ability to your C5 for $400! I recently undertook a simple project to add an mp3 changer to my stock Corvette deck. Since I bought my 2001 Corvette new, I really didnt think the stock CD changer was a good value at well over $500. I decided to wait patiently for something better to come along, and this solution has been working well for me. What you need is the stock Corvette
The following procedure will give you a new code that you can use instead of your personal code. Using this new code, you can unlock your radio and then re-lock it with a new code if you wish. Prerequisites: The radio must be in LOC mode NOT in INOP mode. Let me explain. If you have activated the Theft-Deterrent feature of your radio and loose power, the radio goes into LOC (theftlock) mode. With the
This was taken off of the forum I think it is important.... thank the person on the signature not me.. I just cut and pasted it here.. I felt it necessary to fill you all in on how to decarbon your engines. Here is the reason. For most all situations, knock on a stock c5 will be due to carbon buildup, plain and simple. While there is a lot of speculation, fact is that out
This is what worked for me, it differs from GM\'s official instructions. This is for a minor adjustment and assumes a course adjustment has already been made. This may be different for a 2000 or later. You\'ll need a 2mm Allen wrench and a T30 Torx driver. If you have an old roof which is properly adjusted take a look at the gap between the housing around the front latch handle pivot point and the
1. Place transmitter and any optional transmitter 10 feet or more away from the car. 2. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. 3. Push the TRIP/ODO button on the DIC twice. 4. Within 5 Seconds, push and hold the FUEL/INFO button on the DIC until the PKE light on the DIC comes on and stays on. 5. Turn the ignition to the OFF position, but leave the key in the ignition. Using an FM Modulator to provide an AUX-in to the Standard C5 Coupe Audio System. Disclaimer: Use these instructions at your own risk. This procedure worked fine for me but neither I nor CorvetteForum.com can be held responsible for any damage you or your Vette incur when attempting the same. These instructions should work fine for a 2002 C5 Coupe, Im told the Z06, FRC and Convertible are different on the antenna front. I believe
While waiting for my car to be serviced (oil/filter change), I noticed a Red 99 or 00 C5 (6-Speed )coming in on a flat-bed tow truck. As I suspected it was being transported to the dealership for a Column Lock failure. The tow drive unloaded the locked up car right in front of me and I SAW a tech get in and shake the steering wheel back and forth a few times. The CL \"unlocked\"
Well I did it!! Installed the C5 Solutions By-Pass last night. Couple of editorial comments first: 1. Easy install, great instructions. 2. It worked ! ! ! 3. If you are big like me (6\'4\"/275 lbs), it is a bit harder than the instructions imply. 4. Can\'t think of an easier $60 insurance policy. Following are the instructions from C5 Solutions with my comments marked with >>>. I promised pictures, but sorry, didn\'t take
I thought this might be helpful for those installing boost and/or fuel gauges. When I first started looking I was wondering how the heck I would get the wires run. Hope this helps. Tod Step 1: Safely jack up car and remove drivers side wheel. Step 2: Remove fenderwell cover. Step 3: Remove dead peddle inside drivers floor. Step 4: Drill hole though firewall. Step 5: Insert wiring and gromet.
This tech tip will reduce cabin tire noise and also heat from the tunnel area... I went to Lowes home improvement and bought this aluminum product. it looks like the aluminum products used to deflect heat from windshileds.. I bought a roll 2 ft by 25 ft.. for 25 dollars and a roll of batting I will post pictures.. I removed the rugs in the trunk and covered the trunk area with this product.. it
Starting in 2001, the C5 dipstick and tube were redesigned. Although the official oil capacity of the engine is still 6.5 qts, most owners report that it takes about 7 qts to get up to the \"Full\" hole on the new dipstick. Personally, mine takes 6.9 qts. Also, the new combination makes it very difficult to get an accurate dipstick reading. Here are the techniques developed by Forum members to make the readings easier: 1.
The stock shifter on the C5 Corvette is pretty good. It's has a pretty short throw and it feels comfortable and tight. With that in mind, it's obvious that there is plenty of room for improvement. The stock shifter does not have a strong positive centering mechanism. It's throw is longer than it needs to be and the rubber insulator robs crispness and reduces your chances of hitting the right gate under pressure. For
There are many of us moving away from the Run Flats and picking up tire repair kits as a bit of insurance against a flat or leaking tire. I have repaired a tire in the field and found the following the bare minimum to make it a successful patch and get me on my way. Think of the worst situation possible to have a flat and be prepared for it, anything less will be that
I posted this fix several years ago, but it was lost in the software upgrade... When My C5 was new the e brake barely worked,, I took it to the dealer, and was told that brakes are a wear item and that I would have to pay for new shoes.. the car had less than 1000 miles on it .. the e brake only engages when the car is stopped so how could they be
I just finished changing from the stock Differential Fluid to Red Line. I searched unsuccessfully for tips on how to do this without making a mess and came up empty. So now that I have figured out an easy, clean way to do it, I thought I\'d share it with everyone else. 1) After driving your car until it is warm, raise it up high enough to get to both the Fill and Drain Plugs.
1. Remove Shift Knob: Pry up the plastic shift pattern on the tip of the shift knob. Remove the aluminum pressure pin using a flat head screw driver and a vise-grip. Fasten the vise grip to the pin and insert screw driver under tab and pry up. Note: If pin wont move use some spray lube or liquid wrench to loosen up. Unscrew the shift knob. 2. Center Console Removal: Lift center storage bin. Locate
