C6 Corvette ZR1 Snags LS9 Top Speed Record

The might of a thousand horses. It used to be a number that grown men would look at endearingly, spending countless nights under the hood of their chosen chariot, sleeves rolled up and hands coated in grease. All in order to tweak and finesse the most amount of power out of their motor. But now, coaxing out 1,000 horsepower is — to put it bluntly — easy. Common. The norm. That doesn’t mean it’s still not wickedly fast.

This LS9 powered C6 ZR1 sends that amount of horsepower to the back wheels, and in doing so, has clinched the LS9 half-mile record. At a speed of 191.32mph. If you recall some fast Z06s that we’ve covered in the past, some had 1/4 mile trap times that weren’t much off that pace, but they were blown by massive turbos, and not an LS9. Half-mile races also have a slightly less dramatic launch, and the speed is all back-end. Still, this thing is impressive enough, not only at pace, but also what you can hear from the start line. Gotta love supercharger wine.
