Corvette Owner Busted by GoPro for Insurance Fraud

Don’t Get Caught on the Racetrack Without Proper Insurance Coverage. Because the Fraud Police Are Watching

Friends, here’s a bit of advice. If you’re going to spend time racing your Corvette on the track, make sure your insurance covers it. Especially in the event that you’re not as good of a driver as you think you are. And more importantly, don’t get caught lying about an accident to your insurance company. Especially if you happen to wreck the car while racing.

Seems simple enough, right?

Well, it appears that one C7 owner might have missed the memo. Then again, if it weren’t for this YouTube clip, he might have gotten away with it. It clearly shows the ‘Vette hitting a concrete barrier while drag racing.

According to a report initially posted on PropertyCasualty360.com, the Corvette’s owner, Robert Atlas, was busted by Geico Insurance after claiming that he wrecked his Corvette driving it on a normal road. That prompted Geico to pay out $61,465 to settle the claim.

Atlas probably never counted on Geico stumbling on the GoPro video of him crashing his Corvette. But the insurance company did, prompting them to confront the owner about the claim and the clip.

Given the evidence, Atlas had no choice but to own up to lying about the accident. He plead guilty to insurance fraud, which is sure to present some serious legal challenges. And that’s not to speak of the difficulties ahead if he tries to get another car insured.

So, let this serve as a reminder for those here who are still tracking their Corvette without the proper insurance.
