Joe Correira Had a Recent Hospital Stay for Heart Disease. Upon Being Released, He Got the Surprise of a Lifetime

A humble sort-track speedway in Seekonk, Massachusetts hosted a dream come true for local resident Joe Correira. He’s been battling congestive heart failure, unfortunately. But upon release from the hospital a few days ago, Joe enjoyed his Corvette in a way he never have would have imagined.

In a plan concocted by his family, Joe’s Corvette was brought to the Seekonk Speedway, where the life-long car enthusiast roared around the track for a few laps. Joe, meanwhile, only thought that he was being transported home, to begin hospice care.

“Wow, someone’s got one just like mine!” Correira told South Coast Today.

That was his first reaction upon seeing the red C6 Grand Sport at the track. Then it finally struck him: that was his own Corvette.

Normally closed this time of year, Seekonk Speedway took advantage of some unusually mild temperatures and allowed Joe out on the track for a few laps. Passengers took turns driving with Joe, top down and all, to celebrate his return home from the hospital.

For Joe, or “J Lucky” as some call him, it’s a day he’ll never forget.
