There’s not a week that goes by that I’m not stumbling on some comparison of the C7 to another sports car. In fact, I’ve heard people compare the new Stingray with everything from longstanding foes like the Viper to some of the more heavy-weight contenders in the world of supercars like the Lamborghini Gallardo — especially since the debut of the 2015 Z06.

Yup, the buzz around the new ‘Vette has fueled some interesting debates about how the car matches up to some other vehicles on the market from both a performance and design standpoint. I hadn’t thought much about past cars that have been pitted against the Corvette over the years, though, until I stumbled on a recent Driving.ca report titled “Seven Generations of the Corvette Against the World.”

The article, written by Clayton Seams, traces the history of some of the greatest Corvette rivalries ever, all the way back to the C1. Well, the greatest according to Seams.

round-two
The match-ups range from the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray “Fuelie” vs. the 1963 Jaguar E-Type to a rivalry between the 2007 Corvette Z06 vs. the 2007 Ferrari F430 assessing everything from design to power, with the Corvette taking the crown in most of the battles.

However, one of the most interesting rivalries noted was the 1993 Corvette ZR1 vs. the 1993 Dodge Viper, with the Viper coming out on top because of the ZR1’s cost.

Personally, I think that hardly constitutes handing the Viper the win here. Then again, that’s pretty much the same “best bang for the buck” argument that I’ve said gives the C7 the edge over so many sports cars now.

When it comes to the Z06, the writer contends that the 2015 twin-turbo Nissan GT-R is the best rival, and you’d never guess which car he has winning this one. Check out the full story here.
