Is the C6 Corvette ZR1 the Best Corvette Ever Made?

Since 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette has symbolized the American sports car. Now in its seventh generation, this storied automobile has been turning heads and capturing hearts ever since it rolled off the production line nearly 65-years ago. Starting with the early convertible models in the 1950s, on through the second-generation Stingrays in the 1960s, to the shark-looking C3 models predominantly found in the 1970s, to the more modern C4, C5, C6, and C7 models, Corvettes have worked their way into American culture in a way that few other cars have been able to do. With so many awesome models of Corvettes to admire, it’s a bold claim made by ThatDudeinBlue’s David Patterson that the 2011 Corvette ZR1 is the best Corvette ever made.

In the video below, it’s easy to see David’s excitement right off the bat, as he gives this ‘Vette the 40 mph roll test. Once he drops the car into gear and punches the pedal, his awkward laugh and sudden increased focus hint at the power he is trying to control as he quickly accelerates way over the speed limit, presumably.

As David gets a feel for the ZR1, he breaks down some of its standout features. The short shifter has the nice and punchy feel of a stiff bolt-action rifle, while the 680-HP engine not only dishes out tons of power, but also makes a beastly purr. With five different traction modes standard on the ZR1, David found the Sport mode to be the best, as it keeps the car on the road but is still fun to drive. With GM’s performance brakes keeping everything in check, this ZR1 Corvette is a powerfully built, exceptionally well-handling piece of Americana that is sure to put a smile on any aggressive driver’s face. But is it the best ‘Vette ever? The debate continues…
