We’re betting that most here already know this, so please consider this post a friendly reminder. After all, every new Z06 owner knows that you need to change the oil before the car reaches 500 miles to help keep that 6.2-liter LT4 engine healthy, right?

Well, apparently not everyone.

That’s why Chevy is making it a point to tell owners that an oil change before 500 miles is more of a must than an option. This is necessary to deal with all those contaminates that circulate in the engine early on, as highlighted in an AutoEvolution report.

“We now encourage all owners to change their oil at 500 miles to remove possible contaminants created during the engine break-in process,” Chevrolet Spokesman Monte Doran is quoted as saying.

Sounds like the folks at Chevy may not have realized how important it is to change the Z06’s oil before 500 miles. Hopefully those complaints don’t start rolling in.
