It’s a What? The ‘Shala’ Corvette Show Car

I recently stumbled across this… umm… “Corvette” on eBay, and needless to say, I’m a bit stunned. Volkswagen conversions were quite the rage in the ’70s, and mostly styled to look like mid-engine cars of the time. Berkley is a name that springs to mind for one of many fiberglass body kits that went on the little air cooled cars. This “Shala” Corvette was recently posted on eBay, and the listing includes some interesting info.

The creator of this car was one Mr. Dick Dean, based out of California. And though it may look neat, it is most certainly a project car. The motor, believed to be a unit from the Porche 914, is seized, and it’s doubtful when it was last running. Other than that and some small hardware issues here and there, it would actually make for a cool project car. Would it be as cool as a C3 454? Likely not. It might be included in some sort of Corvette side-show, but it would at least make an interesting conversation piece for someone. At least it has far better proportions than the airplane bodied Corvette we found a few weeks ago!

The auction has ended already, but it’s still worth asking: would you pay the asking price of $7,500 for this one?
