OPTIMA Presents Corvette of the Week: A Grand (Sport) Send-Off

2012 Inferno Orange Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport 4LT Home

This week’s “Corvette of the Week” carries a bittersweet story. For the majority of you who love all kinds of cars, this article will be more sweet than bitter. For those of you who live and breathe Corvette, and nothing else, this is going to hurt like a root canal.

Forum member Rob Phillips (“MakoShark72“) used to own this 2012 Inferno Orange Grand Sport 4LT coupe equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and magnetorheological shocks. Ah, I love writing “magnetorheological”. Anyhow, Rob put more than 14,000 miles on this car during the 18 months he had it, but the time came to move on, and here’s where some hearts will sink like the Titanic.

Rob has moved on to this …

2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe (1)

… a 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S coupe. In the style of Andrew Dice Clay, “OH!”

Here is a picture of Rob’s Grand Sport with his 1972 Corvette.

Rob’s ’72 may be going “bye-bye” soon to make room for this …

1978 Porsche 911 SC Coupe

… a 1979 Porsche 911 SC. Here comes Dice for another “OH!”

As you can imagine, there were some people on the forum who were disturbed by Rob’s news, but most have been supportive. And now if I may cheerlead a bit.

As someone who was brought home from the hospital in a 1977 Porsche 911 S after his birth, I say “bravo” to you, Rob. You’ve had a good run in your ‘Vettes, you’ll have a good run in your Porsches, and perhaps another ‘Vette will reside in the garage of your future. If that is to be the case, Corvette Forum will be here with open arms.
