Retiring GM Design Chief Ranks C7 Corvette as Most Cherished Project

By -

Ed Welburn

Would you expect anything less from any top official on the GM team that was involved in the design of the C7?

I mean c’mon, the chance for an executive like Ed Welburn to retire from the company on the heels of launching one of the most groundbreaking, modern-day sports cars in America is the stuff that dreams are made of.

Sure, the global design chief has had more than a few major wins during his 44-year with GM. But it’s clear that the design of the C7 is what Welburn treasures most, as expressed to a group of journalists recently, according to a GM Authority report.

“You’ve got the history of that brand; you want to build on that history,” Welburn said. “It needs to be a Corvette and not resemble anything else, and yet it’s got to be new and it’s got to be different.”

Mission accomplished. Congrats on a job well done, Mr. Welburn.
