I hadn’t thought much about past cars that have been pitted against the Corvette over the years until I stumbled on a recent Driving.ca report titled “Seven Generations of the Corvette Against the World.”
Personally, I’ve had a tough enough time swallowing the idea that some of the damaged Corvettes might be left on display there in Kentucky, but preserving the sinkhole for a few extra ticket sales seems a bit much.
The next time I hear someone say, “You never really see famous people driving Corvettes in Hollywood,” I’m going to pull this photo up on my phone and say, “really?” In fact, I might even print out a few copies and send them to a couple of Ferrari dealerships in Los Angeles. I’d bet that would stir up conversations around those espresso machines.
The bets are starting to roll in on two hot Corvettes up for auction in April, and the speculation is that both could fetch up to $1 million each when they cross the block. The first up is the Bunkie Knudsen Corvette, a 1963 Corvette Sting Ray built specifically for General Motors Chevrolet Division General Manager Semon “Bunkie” Knudsen.
It’s been said that if you look hard enough you can find a silver lining in every cloud. OK, so maybe some of those clouds require a few more looks than others to find that silver lining, but either way, it appears a bit of the good fortune that comes out of bad situations has rubbed off on the National Corvette Museum.
