Bloomington Gold Corvettes USA is launching its premier event where more than 50,000 automotive enthusiasts and thousands of Corvettes will celebrate the event’s 40th Anniversary at the newly named State Farm Center on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign, Illinois, June 28-30.
The “Granddaddy” of Corvette events made its debut in 1973 and is the longest running national Corvette event of its kind. The event is known for its certification of authentic and restored Corvettes, Survivor® Corvettes, swap meet, Corvette auction, educational seminars, Corvette road tour, and historic Corvettes from special collections. In addition to the hundreds of exhibitors, automotive vendors, and Chevrolet dealers filling the Gold Market, highlights include the GM Chevrolet Ride and Drive Experience, the GoldAuction, an all Corvette auction by Mecum Auctions, the GoldMine, featuring hundreds of Corvettes for sale, and the GoldSchool educational seminars. Attendees driving Corvettes will especially enjoy the convenient parking in the GoldField, testing their skills at the Corvette Autocross, and caravanning in the Corvette GoldTour.
Bloomington Gold is honored to host the largest display of the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray. GM engineers will conduct walk around seminars on the new C7 Corvette, and will be on hand to field questions throughout the weekend. Chevrolet Dealers will also be available to place orders for those wanting to purchase the highly sought after sports car.
The I Hotel will serve as host to the famed “Great Hall” honoring the 2013 inductees of the most influential people and the world’s premier Corvettes. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday afternoon at 4pm. The 2013 Great Hall will include Zora Arkus-Dontov, Mike Yager, Mike Antonick, Bloomington Gold, Reeves Callaway, Carlisle Productions, Chip Miller, Bill Mitchell, Jim Perkins, and Dr. Dick Thompson. Corvettes being honored will include the 1957 Fuel, injection, 1961 Gulf Racer, 1962 327 CID, 1963 Grand Sport, 1965 First Big Block, 1967 L88 Daytona Racer, 1987 Escort Series Racer, Callaway Corvette, C5 Z06, and C6 ZR1. The historic Corvettes will be on display throughout the weekend at the I Hotel.
Spectators can cheer on hundreds of Corvettes on the GoldTour road tour. The parade of fiberglass will leave the event grounds at 6pm on Saturday, and will wind through the central Illinois countryside to historic Monticello, returning to downtown Champaign where the many restaurants, bars, and shops welcome their arrival as the city and area businesses host the Blues Brews and BBQ Festival.
