The Trans Am racing series, long associated with big-bore “ground pounder” V8 race cars, has a new tire supplier and presenting sponsor. As announced at SEMA, Trans Am cars will now be shod with Pirelli racing rubber, as they have stepped forth to fill a void.

Trans Am, and its four classes of production-based sports cars, has been a mainstay of automotive road racing for decades. The three-year deal covers all four classes, with the TA and TA2 classes receiving bespoke racing tires developed in conjunction with leading teams and Pirelli engineers. For TA3 and TA4, they will receive a P Zero racing tire that is closely related to the P Zero street tire. This move solidifies Pirelli’s commitment to winning race tires, as well as outstanding performance from their road tires.

This move is part of a global initiative from Pirelli, who currently has tires in hundreds of different racing series world-wide. Wth the addition of Trans Am,  Pirelli expands radial technology that will be new to a group of racers. The drivers and teams seem to be happy with the change, and we can’t wait for the first race of 2017.
