In 1957, the SCCA had banned manufacturer-sponsored racing, but Zora Duntov knew his customers still wanted to race. So he convinced GM to allow him to include the Z06 option for all 1963 Corvettes.

The Z06 option pack included a larger front anti-roll bar, vacuum brake booster w/ dual
master cylinders, power brakes with front cooling ducts & metallic lining, stiffer
springs & shocks, and a 36.5 gallon fuel tank. These options were available
individually, however most buyers didn’t even know to look for them. What the Z06 package did was allow buyers to configure a factory race car, with just one option.

All 199 Corvette Z06’s were powered by the 360-hp L84 327 with Rochester Fuel Injection. They now command upwards of $200K.
