My 2009 MN6 LS3 has done it since new. I cured it by slightly richening up that portion of the calibration using HP Tuners. If you think it is bad bone stock, don't bother adding a cold air intake. I don't think E10 gasoline is helping either.

Electronic Throttle sucks. My '01 WS6 would pull itself along at 6-700rpm and throttle was instantanious. I have always owned vehicles without ETC. I am not looking forward to it.

I have a similar issue on an 08 Z06. When holding a constant speed in traffic, the engine wants to accelerate then immediately de-accelerate. Occasionally in a low gear the engine seems to miss, then pick up quickly. It's really quite annoying when driving it.

I will take it to the dealer this weekend.. hopefully they can see the problem and look into a fix for this.

Paul.

I agree. Luckily, I'm able to get 94 octane without the ethanol, locally. On a trip though, I have to fill with the crappy 10% ethanol junk.

4:10 gears helped with the low speed idling.

After i read this, i checked our '09 M6. It does not have the exact same symtoms as your car. I can hold it above idle to 800rpm but that's all and not for long. I drove the car in 1st slow and it does not buck and jump as bad as you describe, only some. Good Luck and let us know.

My experience in changing from an LS2 to an LS3 in an '06 A6 may be relevant to this discussion about M6 cars in that the LS3 still has a little more surging at idle than the LS2 even though the idle RPM is the same. I found that GM changed to a different torque converter part number in '08 (when the LS3 was introduced in the Corvette) and have always wondered if the reason for the change was due to the LS3's different idle characteristics. Of course there were other A6 tranny changes in '08 as well, but why the different torque converter? I guess only GM's R&D poeple know the answer to that.

I was considering swapping an '08 converter to find out if it's looser but that's a lot of work and expense for something that's only a hunch.

The tune has a many tables that can affect how well it idles. Changing the minimum air table or coast down timing table can cure the problem. But these are things the dealer can't touch.

Can anyone with an LS2 engine (05, 06 and 07's) comment on whether or not they experience this instability?
After reading these posts and thinking about my own experiences with 06 MN6 I get the impression it is a matter of drivetrain equilibrium. Road conditions (incline), RPM, gearing, etc. are finding the point at which the backlash in the system can be sensed. I get a mild case of this in 2nd or 3rd while easing off the throttle on a slight downhill grade. Changing the load conditions with throttle or by shifting always stops the surging. Make any sense???

It's definitely the worst in 2nd and 3rd gear and I can get it to surge almost every time with a slight increase or ease off of the throttle. This is a stock car. I shouldn't have to compensate for these issues and get creative with the throttle and shifting for it to drive right. Seems that there are enough people complaining that it's a legitimate issue/engineering flaw...

Yes - 06 (LS2). Gear train backlash! (IMHO)

My 08 A6 Vert does the same thing. Like everyone else, I thought it was just me... I mentioned it to my service guy, they couldn't find anything...so I just imagined I was driving a '69 L88...
