Default How Many Z06 Owners Are Running Solid Stainless Exhaust Valves?..."THE REGISTRY"

Like the thread title says, some of us thought it a good idea to get a feel for how many on this forum have changed from the OEM hollow stemmed exhaust valves, over to a solid stainless exhaust valve.

Here's what it looks like so far:

Count is 414 C6 Z06 owning CorvetteForum members who have previously switched to, currently own builds or have builds in progress which will be running, or have experience in their LS7s with running, "heavier" than stock exhaust valves and "upsetting" stock valve train dynamics and "slaughtering" their redlines. Be they doing it with Inconel or Ferrea Super Alloy, Ferrea's new partly drilled exhaust valve, or Solid stemmed stainless steel, in stock or aftermarket castings.

*******This thread as it is set up, is intended to be informative. So to that end the names are hyperlinked to prior posts describing key elements of the owner's build, to include, but not limited to, the cylinder heads in the car, and components used within them, ancillary modifications, and in most cases, which professionals were involved in the builds.

The listing is broken down alphabetically, numerically, and geographically.

The listing is a "Global" listing, in that it includes cars from parts of the world outside of the United States. The CorvetteForum, is the largest Corvette Centric forum of it's type.

This fact should give the reader an indication as to the extent the use of this technique goes in the management of the LS7 stock valve drop issue.

Owners and those interested in this topic, may study the listings and the wide range of information contained within the hyperlinks and using it, make what they deem to be the appropriate professional inquiries with regard to this matter.

This method might save the viewer the trouble of wading through the BS and distractions, which typically come from those who agree with GM's selection of the stock, thin walled, hollow stemmed factory LS7 valves, despite several cases in here documenting their failure. Indeed, had you not heard of the failures of the stock LS7 valves, well you probably would not be in here.

At any rate, the following listing is set up for your perusal. Use it to your advantage. As you study it and absorb the information, speak with professionals who have familiarity and actual practical experience with this technique, the use of non sodium filled SS exhaust valves in the LS7.

Good luck, and enjoy your perusal of the listing which we who have taken the steps to avoid a windowed engine block due to a failed stock LS7 valve, fondly refer to as "The Registry".

I've been running Ferrea Super Alloy exhaust valves for 14K miles so far. I changed the guides about 3K miles ago. No wear on the stock guides was found.

PRC 285CC heads with SS exhaust valves, TI intake. 1500 miles on them so far no issues.

Stock heads were pulled at 28k and all 8 exhaust valves/guides were way out of spec.

Is that no wear on both the intake and exhaust guides? Your saying that you have put 10k on these guides with the Ferrea valves and cam right?

Who else has SS exhaust valves and have checked them 10k miles or more after installing them?

Uh, how many ZO6 owners know better roller cams (mechanical and hydraulic) are manufactured from carburized 8620 alloy steel billet cores that have a superior surface (and subsurface) durability that prevents spalling (particles flaking --typically 60° down from the nose of the cam) that can be found on 5150 alloy and other cam cores?

I'm inclined to defer to GM's engineering talent on LS7 valves and related materials science expertise. The conspiracy theorists flogging LS7 valve train deficiencies are need to move on ...

It is you, sir, who needs to "move on."

I'm trying to get a count here of Z06 owners currently on this forum who run solid stainless steel exhaust valves, or bronze valve guides and stock hollow stemmed exhaust valves.

If you want to debate GM's engineering talent on LS7 valves and related materials science expertise, then start your own thread.

Thank you.

I am running SS exhaust valves and the tumble polished intake valves with bronze guides from WCCH with 4000 miles on them. At 12,500 miles my stock exhaust guides were out of spec

I have Ferrea SS, stock Ti with stock guides. Heads were from an '08, with 2k miles when valves were replaced. Guides checked out fine, so they were left in. I have about 1.2k on them now. No issues so far.

Oh, and the OP bought my oem heads, which apparently showed that I made the right decision to pull them off when I did...
