Does a new 427 1SC Convertible make a good touring car
My wife and I are looking at making several long distance bucket list runs to various parts of the country. I had a dealer price a 1SC at $3K more than a 4LT GS convertible with magnetic ride control. I like the idea of the 1SC, but I don't know if it will make as good of touring car as the GS with auto. My 72 BB convertible doesn't have the creature comforts or fuel economy these trips will require. What am I missing besides the requirement of premium fuel for the 1SC?

I've not had my 427 all that long but I have already taken a few long weekend trips. I think my 427 is a better tourer than the other C6 convertibles I've had. One of those was a stick the other an automatic. Just love the response of the 427 when you give it some gas.

IMHO, both will make for excellent touring cars. So, as others have said, it really just comes down to whether you like rowing through the gears or putting it in drive and forgetting about it.
I would go with the 427 Vert if it were to be my car - I like the rowing, the power and better fuel mileage when cruising.

For me it would be an easy decision because you are getting a the
1SC pkg, the LS7/Z06 drive train for only 3k more. However, as great a bargain as that is, and despite the fact the 427 makes an excellent touring Vette, you might be more happy with the convenience of the G.S. with auto. Since touring seems to be the focus of your decision, you probably could do without the extra power as well.
This is my first Vette, so I have no reference as to how the G.S. rides & handles in comparision. I absolutely love the 427 because you can set it to touring mode and have a very civilized & relaxing cruise, or you can become the maniacal speed demon and it satisfies those needs.
Both the 427 & G.S. verts look outstanding!

Ok, let me add that 1SC is just an interior option for the 427. It's the same as 4LT interior option on the other C6s. If you get a manual transmission in the GS it will have a dry sump system also. If the GS has magnetic ride control it's suspension is pretty much the same as the 427. All 472s come with magnetic ride control.

I am taking my 427 Vert. up to Incline Village Nev. , to Grants Pass Oregon and down the west coast back to So Cal. in two weeks (about 1800 miles). I will let you know when I get back.

Traded in my 2011 GS Vert for a Night Race Blue 427 Vert
Love the 427 engine and really like the Michelin tires on the 427 vs the Crappy Goodyears on the GS. Much quieter and ride much better.
427 Vert is a single year option
Both my Vettes and my Camaro as a DD were purchased from Tommy Jr at MacMulkin
