Default Is the automatic C7 the fastest production auto ever made?

GM says the automatic will make 0-60 in 3.8 secs. Anybody know if there has ever been a faster production car with an automatic?

I recall GM stating that the C7 would do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, but they did not say which model(base or Z51) or which transmission(manual or automatic) was used to achieve that 3.8 second run. So far, no test outside of GM has even come close to backing up that 3.8 second claim.

Porsche doesn't count as they are an expensive ''status'' car, not a cheap "performance" car. But a luxurious Mercedes with a automatic transmission(not a PDK) can rip off a 3.5 second 0-60 and hit a 199 MPH top speed.

In new CNET review - he got 3.8 with the automatic. If they cured the 6L80 issues in the C6, it would have to be faster - just like the 4L65E vs. the M5 in the C5. Based on the performance of the Camaro ZL-1 and the CNET review, it sounds like they cured the issues.

"Even with its immense power and performance specs, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray feels like a car that can be driven comfortably every day. The throttle and steering aren't so sensitive that you feel like its going to get away from you. The automatic transmission option seems to be every bit as performance-worthy as the manual, while the ride quality is actually comfortable."

My reply was a sarcastic reply referring to all those that refuse to acknowledge that Porsche is a competitor to the Corvette.

I couldn't find that review. Do you have a link where CNET drove a C7 automatic and ripped off a 0-60 with it?

When I think of an automatic, I think of a transmission with a torque converter not an automated manual or sequential manual gearbox. Still the Porsche Turbo S before it went PDK and Mercedes AMG still have the vette beat I believe.

Cnet stated:

Chevrolet says the Stingray hits 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and, remarkably, that is with either the seven-speed manual or the six-speed automatic.

Do they didn't actually test it but just quoted GM

From Edmunds:

Sixty mph was gone in 4.1 seconds (3.8 seconds with 1-foot rollout as on a drag strip).

Also they have a 7 Speed

The Stingray, equipped with the optional dual-mode exhaust, packs 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque (standard is 455 hp/460 lb-ft). Our test car came equipped with the exhaust, the Z51 package and Magnetic Selective Ride Control. It also utilized the seven-speed manual transmission with active rev-matching: a feature toggled on and off using the wheel-mounted paddles that would otherwise execute shifts on automatic-equipped cars.

And in our tests it was insanely rapid... in every measurable way.

How does a 12.0-second quarter-mile at 117.3 mph sound? Sixty mph was gone in 4.1 seconds (3.8 seconds with 1-foot rollout as on a drag strip)."

C&D, R&T, MT, TOP GEAR, EVO, excreta all test on a drag strip with roll out, if we are going to have an honest apples to apples discussion on acceleration times please stop the BS on roll out/no roll out.

One day soon we will see a test of the automatic z51 mrc with npp 1lt car and I believe it is capable of 3.8 to sixty...

It'll be a fast car for sure and yes I believe it will be the fastest or quickest production automatic transmission corvette ever.

Z51 for the slightly different rear axle ratio?

Usually the CTS v and Camaro zL1 automatics are a tenth of a second faster in acceleration....sometimes their trap speed in mph are 1 or 2 less in the quarter.

Nowadays when you say auto you have to define what you mean.
