Default 1970 LS-6 Corvette?

Last weekend I traveled to Tampa. I went to a car show there. One of the guys there had a
1970 Corvette T-Top. He claims that his car was a LS-6 Prototype (454 - 425 HP). Officially
there were no LS-6 produced until 1971. His Vette had a lower serial number of approx. 75XX -
so it must have been produced approx. in February... Does anyone know if it is possible that
this car is a real 1970 LS-6?

Olivier

I really doubt it. The LS6 is listed as an option even in the 1970 owners manual. The specs show 450 horse power and 11:1 compression. The detuned 425 hp version was actually made in 1971. They did have at least one LS7 (460 hp, 12:1 comp.) prototype that was released to the press in 1970; but, it was either destroyed or refitted with something else and not sold to the public. They really wouldn't have needed a prototype for this detuned LS6 version since the work had already been done more than a year before.

The car looked like a regular big block Vette. The Vette is dark blue. The only parts that are not original are the Hurst Shifter, the Headers and
the Holley 750 double pumper carb. The serial number was in the 7000's. I couldn't see the Engine ID because it was dark and I didn't have a flashlight with me.

I would'nt say "never" just yet. I mean it could be "possible". Imagine if you came upon one of the first five '63 GranSports. Instinct would probably tell you it was a "kit" car until it was proved to you that it was a "real" one. Same thing with '69 ZL-1s. Most recognized production number was 2, but I have seen other sources that have stated "7 were built". Do these also include the "supposedly" ZL-1 test cars. One also "appears" to be a '68 with the push button door handles. Also, LT-1s were listed as an option in the '69 owner's manuals-yet how many of those were ever made by GM??? On this particular '70 we are talking about, the probable absolute way is to see "the original" tank sticker, yet today these too are probably being "forged". :yesnod:

Many may not know that Warp is the illegitimate son of Zora Duntov and had special privileges to hardware otherwise not available to the rest of us. The story of buying through the dealer is merely a cover story. His is absolutely a genuine 1970 LS6.

Sorry Warp, I promised not to tell, but I thought the time was right!
