Default What is the differences between 87, 88, 89 models?

I need to buy a service manual, but I can never find an 88 manual for sale on ebay. I always see 87 or 89, not 88 model year manuals. Which one is closer to the manual for my 88? I know suspension was changed from 87-88 and the engine and manual transmission changed from 88-89. What other differences were there? If you had to choose, which one would have more that applied to my model year?

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

You'd be better off with an 89 as they'll have the same headlight systems, AC systems, brake cylinders, suspension, etc. The engine didn't change from 88 to 89, only drivetrain difference was instead yf a 4+3 manual you get the ZF6.

Well, by the engine change, I meant the cold start injector and any other little changes they made to the engine. Thanks for your opinion.

Yeah, I'm with you. It frosts me :mad big time that in the first two model years you can buy a Helm manual for less than $20. Now they're $80-$90! Same book and they make a profit obviously at $20 or they wouldn't sell them for those first two years at that price. So the higher price is just plain thievery, IMO. But welcome to the world of older Corvettes.

To add insult to injury, the Chilton and Hanes manuals are almost useless to anything you want to do on your 'Vette. Neither of them even tell you how to take the shift **** off. So you really need a Helm. I sent a complaint letter to the people at Hanes about a problem I had about a system on my car they didn't even reference to in their manual. Well, they helped me out by sending me reprints from the Helm manual, haha

Unfortunately, you really have to have the Helm if you do any work on your 'vette yourself.

FWIW,

BIG JIM
