Default Shorty Antenna

I have a '99 FRC with the standard antenna. I want to shorten it. Anybody know the adverse affects if any, in doing that?
Do I just cut it and re-install the tip?
I would like to end up with to end up with a 10-12" antenna.
thanks

You're decreasing the surface area to pick up signal and therefore hurting performance if you cut it. There's an antenna the F-body guys use called BitViper, dunno if it works on C5's but you can e-mail the guy and ask.

I had an extra factory antenna under my interior so I shortened that extra one to level with the room line (think it is 12.5"). I hardly listen to the radio as is and live in a major city so I have not seen very much difference, although it HAS to make a difference having less area to pick up the radio waves. It sure as hell looks a lot better

Yep They work but only on the GM non electric bases Im using a loaded antenna so I dont havethe reduction in signal strength that comes with just cutting or using one of thoes "all metal" shorties wheic dont do anything except shortten your antenna

Default Chop it off!

I took an spare chevy truck antenna and cut it off, dipped it in black enamel paint, hung it so that it could dip and dry, stuck a small black vinyl tip on it. Works great, looks good, and cost was zip.

You can check it on my web site - seeZ06 mods.

i have a shorty that looks good, but this is a great idea too. The adverse affects are that you loose signal strength. But in the city/suburbs its not bad. I listen to very little radio when im in the vette.

Here is the one i bought from a forum vendor

I bought mine through WCC

Very happy with the reception (whenever I use the radio which is rare ).

I like the looks of mine but hate the reception. But I do live far from the city. The big one worked excellent but looked like crap
