Woofer makes noise when radio is off! How do I cure it??
I have a 97' C5.
stock bose cd player
convertor running off the rear speaker to power the zapco 1000 watt amp (power and ground are 4 gauge)
one 15" dvc audiobahn woofer
when the radio is powered off, the woofer makes noise........im assuming this is some kind of ground issue?
what do i need to do to cure this problem.
thanks.

yeah it sounds like the woofer is thumping slightly.
well i know the audibahn sucks but it actually sounds pretty good and handles the zapco ok. im patiently waiting for my uncle to hand me down one of his 15" eclipse titanium woofers.
Is my ground bad??

This one can be tough to solve cause there are several sources of the problem. Since I don't like to make assumptions I'll ask.. are you using a line out converter off the speaker wires? The speaker wires are a bad source of signal regardless, but if you're not using a line level converter that is definitely a problem. It won't necessarily solve the thump but it's somewhere to start if that's the case. Either get a LOC or I think for the C5 (no personal experience) there's a "VET1" module that can get you RCA lines at the head.
If it's not the case... sometimes a ground loop isolator can take care of it (can be had at Radio Shack for $15-20) but make sure you set your levels again because if you use one cause it will definitely change them. That's the easiest fix. The hard/real fix is to get the timing of what turns on when right. You usually get that thump if your amp is on before signal is getting to it. When the head comes on, you get some voltage down the line and *thump.*

In my previous ride, my Treo 650 phone would do things like that to my sub. I even exchanged the amp/sub once before I figured out it was the phone interference causing it. (Also keeps my FOB from working if they're closer than 9-12".)

very interesting.
well I am using a line out convertor off the speaker wires. And my original setup and my second setup never had this thumping problem with the head unit OFF.
But for some reason now with my new amp and woofer, it thumps when the headunit is off.
Could the ground be a problem? I use to have the ground running to the passenger seat bolt. Then when i had this new amp/woofer put in some stereo guy grounded the wire to the back of that little hump behind the seats, and it has been a prob. ever since so im hoping that is the problem.
Is grounding the amp on the seat bolt to far? My amp is in the cargo area right behind the passenger seat.
Thanks.
