All New C6 install>>>C'mon on in!!!
Alright guys,
This is the 3rd iteration of my C6 system.
1st being bone stock w/ NAV and the Blose package.
2nd being keeping the stock NAV system and adding amps and speakers.
Well, this was fine for the year and a half I kept it. I kept lying to myself thinking the SQ was good enough. What a bunch of that was. The stock unit was just not made for SQ. I was not using my amps to their full potential. I wanted better SQ and honestly a killer install. Here is the list of the new equipment:
- Kenwood DNX7100 w/ all the goodies (bluetooth, XM + XM NAV, IPOD Video).
- All the PAC peripherals for OnStar and Chimes.
- Passport SRX
- US Amps MD-43
- Focal KP100 in the doors
- Focal KBE65 in the doors
- Focal KP100 in custom pods in the rear
- US Amps MD-3D
- 3 Kicker Solobaric 10" L7's
- 2.5 Farad DEI cap
- Dynamat on the doors , front cabin, and rear hatch. Basically the whole car. I have a CrazyCowboy insulation kit that will go in a little later.
Here are the pics:
Kenwood
Passport SRX
Passport SRX LED for silent mode
Driver door before vs. after
Passenger door before vs. after
Rear Pods
Sub Enclosure
Amp Rack
Lighted C6 logos
My take on the system is now it sounds FLIPPIN' AWESOME!!! Nothing rattles. The mid-bass is UNBELIEVABLE. The subs just flat out pound and the install is CRAZY! We all know what the Kenwood can do. The amps run really cool. Everything is crossed over correctly. I will be taking it to get the SQ adjusted using some sort of meter. The lights only turn on when the back hatch is opened. THE TOP STILL STORES!!!
Hope y'all like it.

Thanks, I know all of you tech guys have a great ears for SQ and what is the best bang for the buck regarding technology and stuff, but I don't have your expertise so I kinda researched all of your threads for close to 6 months and took your advice as to what to use. I went back and forth between the Kenwood vs. the Pioneer, the Focals vs. the ID's vs. the CDT's, oh and the amps???
My installer keeps asking me who you guys were since I gave him all kinds of information directly from these threads to make it easier for him. You guys helped a lot and the install was almost flawless. There are a couple of minor paint fixes on the enclosure and a couple of wires that were not hooked up but nothing to scream about.
That is why it took 2 tries to finally get it to where I want it to be.
Thanks

You have some great equipment in that car now. In fact, the equipment is much better than the install. If you ever feel brave enough to have the door panels remolded, then proper path length and speaker positioning/aiming can be observed, and that nice sounding system will really shine like you won't believe.

Kale,
My installer said the same thing. I did not have the guts to go through with it because it is personal thing at that point. If I decide to keep the car, then I would definately look into it. I would like to get the tweeter up on the a-pillar somewhere and point the mid-bass and mid-range in the correct positions. We shall see.
Thanks

Fasthotrod,
I bought a 2003 Silverado SS for the clubs, kids, bats, and guns.
BKNIMKR,
The installer is in the city of La Puente, CA. You gotta come here it when you get a chance.

sweet install Ron. It makes a world of difference when you have a little knowledge going into it. Like you said, the 2 issues you had are almost a given and can be easily missed when doing a full install. Glad they were found and fixed easily. Install looks great, enjoy it and the car. Sweet looking ride for sure as well.

ttomczak,
Thanks all of the feedback is greatly appreciated, good or bad!!!
Skamp,
What are you planning on doing? I love to read on the posts that have a plan and to see it go from stock to whatever is fun. It's almost like I am setting up the system. Thanks for the Thumbs Up.

The big thing I am excited about are the JBL 660GTi comp speakers. They should sound great as they have a 60* off axis response provided I can get the waveguide to fit somewhere.

I think it looks great. As Kale eluded to, moving the tweet would make a night and day difference (as would ditching the rear speakers ). If you are worried about stock appearance, just pick your self up a set of a pillars and swap them out when you sell.
I like seeing the guts of the amps and the fact you got the top to store with 3 10's in the hatch is pretty remarkable.
