Default C6 w/pioneer avic z2 static/hiss

Hello!

I didn't install this unit, it came installed in the car, everything works great except that I have a hiss coming from all 4 speakers.

the amp turn on lead is mis-wired to the power antenna lead I think, if I go into the unit settings and tell it to leave the antenna off I get silence but no music of course, if I leave it set to only come on with with the AM/FM tuner, I get hiss on the radio source but not the CD or library, but again no music.

I'm waiting on a sat. tuner and ipod adapter to come in before pulling the unit, but can you think of anything that could cause this? A problem with the GMCO maybe? The static is a constant level independent of the volume set on the nav unit, if that makes sense. Any other ideas?
Not a ground loop, it's there w/the engine off. A couple old threads on the same problem but no resolution?

ok first thing the remote/power antenna lead is wired properly do not change it

there is 1 of 2 thing going on. either u need ground loop isolators, or when it was installed they cut the rca ends off the gmco and wired it to the speaker outputs of the radio instead of the rca level outputs, meaning u need to splice some rca connectors in

if he cut them I'll just buy a new GMCO.
I'm going to wait until I have the ipod interface and sat. radio interface so I can do the bypass mod, install those interfaces, and sort out my problems.

I'm willing to bet that's what they did since I just found the pioneer RCA out/in connector and pig tails in the bluetooth accessory box

not his fault really the instructions say if u have non bose to cut em, but it doesnt apply because all c6's bose and non bose have an amp meaning you want to use the rca ends.

read the bottom of this writeup it talks about rca wiring

I'll see what they have, it's just that most of them are a one wire with a tiny core and an outer sheild that are a hassle to solder cleanly.

Finally got all the accessories in that I wanted to install and pulled the unit.

it was wired incorrectly, the high level outs going to the harness, I got some bare RCA connectors and soldered them back on and hooked it back up, the hiss is a little better but not much.

Now I'm getting a loud THUD when you open the door and the stereo shuts off, it doesn't do it if you change the ANT out setting and switch the amp on and off through the headunit so I have no idea where to start looking. All of the RCA's are clean, no shorts, all of them are the correct polarity (neg to the skirt pos to the pin..) checked it all and checked it all again, I'll try an isolator, a delay etc

this is a good solution lifted from another thread, in case down the road someone is searching for the same problem

I used a pulse timer and that does get rid of the pop but the pulse timer i used from DEI was iffy and only worked maybe 70% of the time. The solution I came up with and the customer lived with was to use the cars switched power wire (the red dwire of the GMCO) and use that to power the factory amp. This way it pops when you start the car and not when you shut it off. Most people dont hear the pop when it starts because the engine is cranking and drowns it out.

isolators fixed it just like all the others. Still some hiss though, mostly in the back, guess I'll live with it. I get the whir and click of the hard drive through the speakers too it sounds like. Oh well

Installed the bluetooth, sirius, and ipod modules on the Z3, the sirius was defective so I got to do it all twice. I'm also officially OUT OF ROOM around the stereo. Nice of GM to leave that big gap by the glove box, it's got the modules.

some of the noise u are getting could be due to the fact that pioneers have poor rca ground

would be pretty easy to just ground the negatives at the GM amp, no? I think i've seen the wire codes around here somewhere.

I really, REALLY do not want to pull the headunit, modules, and all the wiring again, it's really a bear to get it all back in there.

Thanks for the link, it's a common problem with the avic Z series from what I could find but I hadn't seen a solution. (or cause)

its all pioneers caused by a **** poor ground in the head. you actually need to do it at the radio

No change, grounded the skirts on all 4 RCA's between the HU and the ground loop isolators, still there, no improvement. I'm thinking it has to be a defective HU but I don't know.
I left the interior apart this time in case you have more ideas

also ran a temp ground from the battery to the chassis and the harness, no change. Gotta be a defect in the unit.

Guess I should have started the engine and not just used ACC power, definitely a ground loop, guess I'll pull the thing apart again and run another ground.
I have two issues, the underlaying HISS noise and then alternator whine, the hiss I can deal with.
I already have isolators in so I guess this isn't going to be fun.
