Default C6 Custom JL Audio Install...... Italian Suede & Leather Accents **PIC's**

MY GOALS:

1) Weight of overall system (light as possible) with the ability to easily
swap out sub boxes to reduce the weight when I want to!
2) Sound Quality
3) Install has to be reversible in order to keep car original
4) Cost (I think everybody forgot about this requirement)

Audio Equipment:
-JL 1000/1 amp
-JL 300/4 amp
-JL 12W3 subs
-Alpine 9886 head unit
-CNC'ed door speaker plate adaptors
-Custom built sub enclosure 1.25 cu/ft per sub (sealed)....used Italian
Suede w/ Synthetic Leather accents
-7" Seas CA18RNX Full Range door speakers...My review, It blends seemlessly with my Seas tweets. Smooth response, with controlled roll off on the top end, allowing it to potentially be run w/o a xover.

-1" Tweeter Seas Prestige 27TAFNC/G....My review, Very smooth response. Very low distortion of all types, particularly the near non-existant high order harmonics. No notable energy storage problems. More lively and accurate for instruments especially metal and strings.

I chose to run my front stage off the active cross over in my 4 channel JL amp to save weight (no passive x-over) and to have unlimited tuning capabilities to tune it to my personal tastes.

I requested the sub enclosure to be constructed using 1/2" high density MDF wood instead of the traditional 3/4" wood in order to reduce weight. I also requested special bracing in certain areas to address potential flexing. It's amazing how light the box is considering the overall size. I chose the JL W3 line due to the compromise between weight,SPL and sound quality. They do require a lot of power. As for the amp rack, I requested the use of medium density 1/2" MDF wood to save even more weight. My amp rack w/ 2 amps weigh 27lbs. My speaker box weighs 40lbs.

My first choice would be Image Dynamic IDQ12V3.D4 12" subs in a 3/4" MDF box (maybe even ported) with Diamond Audio 7000 series hand built amps made in the USA, but all that is way to heavy to meet my requirements on a car GM spent hundreds of millions designing to be light as possible. When one weighs down the rear of a vette, they ruin the car's characteristics GM designed. The balance is skewed and thrown off, suspension tends to sag, overall performance is highly diminished and as the weight adds up the vehicle starts to stray from the "super car" type it was designed to be!

***LOOK IN THE FOR SALE SECTION for my old equipment***

So are the rear speakers empty or just off?

Nice, I am thinking of bi-amping my front stage for more control.

I've had many high end systems over the years (some installed by myself and some paid to be professionally installed) ...after experiencing the sound and flexibility of a true active cross over front stage for the first time on my newest install, I doubt I'll ever accept door speakers with passive cross overs in the future.

When going active, be sure to correctly choose a set of good tweeters and full range mids that compliment each other and blend smoothly together. I spent close to 6 months on and off doing research on the various in depth audio forums before I decided on the drivers that I went with for my audio install.
