Better replacement sub for my 8"JL audio sub?
My crappy JL audio sub in the rear of my vette rattles when I have music playing. Is there a better 8" sub that will have a deeper sound and not rattle? Thanks.

Where is the rattle coming from? Is it the box or something else? I know this might sound dumb, but is it tight in the box? I guess I'm not understanding why it would rattle. Is it crackling from the sub when turned up. As in, it can't hold the power?

I have a JL Audio 8" sub in the rear of my GS, and it don't rattle at all. Actually. I can't see how a sub can rattle unless the driver is cracked ... but then, it really woudn't be really a "rattle" sound.
I like the 10" JBL Audio subs, but I just used an 8" since the interior volume in these Corvettes is so small anyway.

It comes from the sub when the volume is turned up it starts to rattle. It's the rubber cover/face of the sub.

Keep in mind, an 8" driver is pretty small for sub woofer duty, and is really only meant to augment bass at lower levels. If you're asking too much of it level wise, the amp will start to clip, followed by voice coil damage. Both will cause the rattling you described, with voice coil damage, making it a total goner.

Yah you need to figure out if you are just over driving the little 8". There are also setup items to consider that may be making things worse.
Your box may be a little bigger than ideal for the 8", depending on what you listen to it may also help if you have a subsonic filter or bandpass crossover to roll off ~25-30Hz or so that the 8" won't really handle well.
Not a lot of 8" choices out there. Boston makes a nice dvc 2/4 ohm that is inexpensive and competitive with most of the 8" options out there.

I've had 8's before and they just don't do a good job with producing deep bass. I would look into putting a 10 back there. Your 8 is probably loose or there is a problem with the box. Double check the sub and the box. If you are getting a popping noise, then you are over driving the sub.
