GPS with Traffic updates
I'm going to replace my GPS this time with 7 inch screen, and seem the new one have traffic reports.
I'm interested is it worth the extra money for traffic reports, and does even work correctly.
My next questions is how does it pick up traffic reports, I know the power cord is special, but does it use your smartphone?
Thanks.

What's special about the power cord is it has an FM antennae built into it. This is what receives a signal from a small, low power FM transmitter that reports traffic. My shows me a red line if my route is delayed and tells me how long the delay is. Not every area will have a transmitter to tell you about traffic delays, but I would suspect the major routes around your area do. I like the feature, but you'll have to decide if it's worth the money to you. My old unit has no link to my smartphone and uses the antennae built into the power cord for traffic updates.

Do you have a smart phone? If so, download an app called Waze. It is a GPS with real time traffic updates, and it is free. It is like social networking + GPS. The more “wazers” on the road the more information it has to plan the route. It will even automatically reroute you if it finds a faster way to get to your destination. I have the stock NAV in my 2013 GS but I stopped using it because it basically sucks. I just hook my iPhone to the USB and the audio/guidance is played through the car speakers.
You can get more info here: https://www.waze.com/

Drifting
Its worth it to me. It tried to route me around construction traffic just this past weekend. I say 'tried' because the biggest challenge, for some pf us., is to trust the GPS. As it turns out, I should have done so.
As for how it works, well, I think thats all magic.
