C5 aftermarket single din Alpine
Recently I bought a 04 Z06. The original owner upgraded the stereo (original was included with the car) to a Alpine CDE-135BT. I do not know how he connected it as I have yet to check. I do know that the sound sucks. It's like their is no bass and no matter how I try to adjust the sound still sucks. This is my 3rd vette and have never had one with aftermarket system, thinking of just putting the original back but would like to get some feedback to see if I can make this system sound better as I know it should.
Also for you guys with aftermarket systems - when you check codes on the DIC do you get a NO COMM when you come to the radio?
Thanks in advance for any advice or help. I do plan on checking behind to see how it was hooked up.

The connection behind the radio may not matter. If PO had a nice aftermarket amp/speaker and sub setup installed he may have just ripped it all out and thrown the stock speakers back in without connecting them properly, or possibly even worse
I'm just off exit #5 in North Augusta if you need help

Thanks for the response. I am going to get behind it and check it out but also looking at the possibility of calling Dennis at DD Mods and just going with a good DD set up.
Are you doing any of the SC corvete shows? Charleston - Vettes doing Charleston April 18 and Myrtle Beach Corvette Show June 6?
It's been 3 years for me without a vette so it is good to be back in the game.
I also see that your a Damn Yankee - me too. I am a transplant from NH. Retired from the USAF at Shaw AFB 16 years ago and just stayed in SC.
Their is also a very good car show in Winnsboro SC October 3rd.

Yes, I stayed
After the Navy transferred me from Pearl Harbor, HI to Groton, CT in the middle of winter I turned in my Yankee card
Of the 3 shows you mentioned, June is the only one that's even remotely possible with my current schedule. But I generally don't go to too many shows, I'd rather just drive it
If you need any help figuring out what's going on with your current mess or installing a new system just let me know.

Mark thanks I will. After I figure out what is going on with the current system I am going to decide if I am going to upgrade. I think if I might plug the OEM back in and see how that sounds compared to what is in it now to help troubleshoot the problem.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I realize that this is an old post but I just got around to pulling the aftermarket alpine. This is what I found hooked up. I was able to just unplug it and looks like no wires were ever cut during the install. Also with the alpine system in I did have RAP. Markcz any thoughts?

That is the XSVI-2004 interface, instructions are HERE
Make sure the wires are connected properly, specifically the blue/white, and look at the instructions to see how to adjust the bass on the XSVI.
Also check the HU settings, make sure the front speakers are on 'full pass' or any LPF setting is OFF.
Fuse 28 in the footwell powers the door subs, check/replace it also.
If none of that works it may be time to pull the door skins off to see what's in there

Mark before I reconnect the battery can I leave everything I disconnected (hvac control unit, traction control switch) disconnected without harming anything?

Cranked up the bass pots on the XSIV and bang I now have bass. The pots were all the way down like they had never been adjusted when installed. Thanks Mark.

Looking to get a alpine head unit put into my C5Z w/ stock bose and would like to know would you recommend the xsvi wiring harness for ease of plug and play as well as sound quality? trying to compare between this and the SVEN2 and SVHGM4

When I bought my 04 Z06 it had the alpine unit in it and the OEM stereo in the trunk. Well when I pulled the alpine and solved the issue on the bass I put the OEM unit back in. The alpine sound was a little better than the OEM but I liked the look of the oem and my car is a weekend/car show toy that only gets used about 1500 miles a year so I put the oem stereo back in. If you have not bought a system for your car yet I will sell you the used alpine from my car along with the harness shown above. It will be a plug and play and with this setup it did retain RAP. I will post pictures of the unit installed and out of the car. I looks like new. Alpine BT-135. It is a 3 year old system. Let me know I will give you a great deal.
