Want to install 1/8" Aux Input Jack for I-Pod-Need Help
I want to install an Aux Input Jack into the OEM Bose System so I can use an I-Pod od similar device to play music.
I came across this thread, and I need to have someone dissect the info (Page 4- post 63) so I can use the Audio signals from the XM module to the RCA Jack module.
I need a schematic, or a simple explanation to run the required wires so this will work. Do the wires from either the XM module or the stereo head unit connectors have to cut, or can they be piggy backed into the connectors or wires.
I want to have XM work (I subscribe), and when I plug in the I-Pod into the jack, the XM cuts out and the I-Pod plays through instead of XM.
I'm not that savvy with electronics, but I can solder and run wires, and such.

Thanks for any and all help.

C6 prints are HERE, you need plug print 4.
The oem wires do need to be cut, back by the XM box is easiest IMO.
There are at least 3 ways to do this mod. If you want it to auto-switch when you plug in the cord you have to use the plug gizmo on the post you reference.
If you are OK with having to flip a switch to select the ipod it's a bit easier. You can use a 4PDT switch and hide it behind the passenger seat, or a 4PDT 12vDC relay with a small selector switch/pushbutton that you can mount almost anywhere.
However you do it, you'll need to run some extension wires to the switch/plug.
The simple explanation...
Cut the wires for the XM audio signal.
Extend XM box side of those wires to "Input A" terminals (if using switch/relay).
Run wire from center/output terminals back to cut wires and connect to radio side.
Connect 1/8" jack wires to "Input B" terminals.
With switch in A it plays XM, with switch in B it plays ipod.
Yet another option is to just BUY AN ADAPTER

I have googled this in the past and found lot's of info, but I just want to be sure of what wires to cut and to attach to the RCA Jack housing.
I made this schematic for what I believe to be correct.
With your expertise, can you verify this please or point out what needs to be changed.
For Pin #1 on the RCA Jack, does it use Ground wire (Black/White) or Common Audio (Tan/White) from the XM module to radio cable as per Plug 4 schematic.
I will use Cat 5 to connect to the Aux Jack.
Here is the schematic that I'll use if it's correct.
Thanks.

You should use shielded audio cable to connect to your Aux Input jack. With CAT5 you will get cross-talk between L and R channels and will be susceptible to noise.
I did this mod when I upgraded to a Sirius Tuner and I used a 1/4" switching jack instead of a 1/8" mini jack because the contacts/switches are more robust.

I agree that Cat 5 is not the best. I will order the Harness 2 kit from Ray kawal, which does include the shielded wiring, and also the connectors so I won't have to cut my harness.
