Default Will an Alpine X800D-U / X009D-U fit in a C6

Hi guys,

planning a head unit swap I gathered all kinds of information needed but searching already for a while I can’t find if the Alpine head units X800D-U or X009D-U fit as replacement of the OEM head unit in the C6 dash.

The specifications of Alpine’s operating manuals says following:

CHASSIS SIZE
X008X-U: Width 178 mm, Height 100 mm, Depth 164 mm
X009X-U: Width 178 mm, Height 100 mm, Depth 153 mm
That is both double din dimensions - so that will at least fit since all the other double din units have the same chassis dimensions (with some deviation on the lenght).

NOSE SIZE
X008X-U: Width 190 mm Height 121 mm Depth 22 mm
X009X-U: Width 214 mm Height 132 mm Depth 23 mm

I am puzzled since on an current 7” Pioneer head unit F70DAB (which is prooved to fit in the C6 dash) it says 2 nose size dimensions (DIN and "D") in the brochure:

NOSE SIZE
DIN: Width 188mm × Height 118mm × Depth 29mm (that will be only 2mm less in width/ 3mm in height to to X008D-U)
D: Width 171mm × Height 97mm × Depth 21mm (that seems to be the "real" needed opening in the installation frame)

Don’t know what the D means – it seems to be the real opening needed for the installation frame means the part we see in the car. For sure is that the Pioneer F70DAB head unit will fit into a C6 dash – it has plenty of space around to the dash brezel with the Metra installation frame used.
As a hint the total available width inside the console brezel for the head unit and the AC control is 199mm - for the head unit I measured a available height of 111mm.

Any ideas what the larger DIN dimensions telling us?

That said I am not sure which dimensions are in the Alpine brochure named – are this the D or the DIN dimensions?
If the DIN then I guess the D are even smaller and the unit could probably fit into the C6 dash.

Pretty sure that the X009X-U is to wide and high for the C6 console, but who knows exactly?

Has anybody installed (or tried to install) the X008X-U (or even a X009X-U) in a C6?
Was the Metra GM Multi Kit DDIN 05-13 (#95-3304) used to build it into the dash?

Hope you can help me with that - thanks in advance

Lars

Hi Dennis,

cutting is excatly what I want to prevent since then the original look is definitely gone.
Makes no sense to sell me the X008D-U - I need the European version of this device for Germany (the US version wont work properly in Germany with the radio frequences and the navigation).
Here in Europe Alpine sells the X800D-U (yes its 008 vs 800 in the device name) which has the same dimensions/features/connectors than the US version X008D-U.

But it would be highly appreciated if you could tell me what kind of cutting I have to do to make it work/fit.
And even more interested I am in the miracle of Alpine's dimension figures - if the nose's (visible part of the device) width is 190 mm and the height 121 mm then I have to cut the bezel 10mm at the upper edge (since the opening for the head unit is 199mm wide and 111mm high and this opening is limited at the lower edge by the AC control).
But first that will then eat up nearly the whole nose-piece of the bezel between the head unit and the vents and second I am just guessing and hoping of your help on that.

The Alpine specs for the INE-W928R (Width 197mm/Height 124,4mm) says that this guy is even bigger than the X008D-U.

Which kind of installation frame have I to use then for the X008D-U (guess the Metra one for the 7" devices is out of the race)?

Thanks

Lars

Hi Dennis,

is it only the height which I have to cut or the width as well?
Do aou have some pics from a installed 8" in a C6?
And how is the device then mounted into the console?

Thanks

Lars
