Kenwood hosed their dealers and many prospective customers. Bummer for Dennis who is very helpful here. Bottom line is Pioneer is selling units and Kenwood is not. Moral: Don't get into a pissing contest with Apple. They have more cash than any government China.

The radios are in California at Kenwood and have been for weeks.
A couple Fridays ago with the radios working as they should Apple told Kenwood they want another change in the firmware. So Kenwood has to make yet another change to make Apple happy then reload every radio with new firmware with the approved version then begin shipping.

Very frustrating but these are going to be worth the wait.
I have seen them had one in my hands and they are VERY fast units.

Just curious - what is the practical benefit of a unit being fast? Don't they all play the same music at the same speed?

It's not just about the music. Think of it as your computer. Faster Processing makes for a more enjoyable experience.

Personally I'm waiting for this unit and am in no rush to settle on a pioneer or other unit.

It's been frustrating waiting for several months now and equally frustrating is not having any idea of when they might ship. I'd be happy to get a unit without Car Play since I don't use Apple products and have no plans to anytime soon.

I have the non NAV DVD units instock.
But every NAv unit has Carplay so they are not shipping either with the exception of the 992 which I do have instock.

FYI - the biggest online retailer on the interwebz now states that you can pre-order a new Kenwood. The stated release date on that site is June 30th. We shall see...

This so called retailer is wrong as well.
There is nothing at all officially released by Kenwood as well as of ohh an hour ago now.
I will tell you once Apple releases the firmware licensing approval Kenwood has to bring in many many temp employees to open all the boxes and upload new firmware to the radios.

Anyone selling a radio on AMAZON is not authorized Kenwood dealers to even do so as Kenwood does not allow 3rd party website transactions for authorized online retailers.

So not only are these people selling you something they are not allowed to do but giving you information that is not true in any way shape or form and making a guess as to what is going to happen.

CALL ME ANYTIME for the real up to date truth on status as there is no offical date that has been released. All I know is its looking really good for a release coming very soon and we will be one of the very first to have them guaranteed

I too am awaiting a release date on these to replace the DNX892 in my Z06. I have apple car play in my Sierra denali and absolutely love it! It's so nice to finally be able to respond to text messages hands free. Been an avid kenwood user for a very long time and not a better way to combine my fav radio with what is now one of my favorite software versions.

still hopeful for the end of the month
but as of yesterday they still did not have approval from Apple

I have a gut feeling they will prob arrive on 7-5 as we have to leave for 4 days to go to Seattle for my sons surgery who is stationed in Bremerton WA. for the Navy. So with my luck it means the radios will arrive while I am gone for a few days which means we wont be able to get them out till we get back.
So just mentioning this now to everyone and to everyone who is calling.
I sure hope its a day or two before but we hope everyone understands the short trip to Washington to be there for our son wife and grand kids as they have no family anywhere near there to help out. Bad thing about the military when there es no family around!
