The brand new Sony XAV-AX100 with Apple Carplay and Android Auto double din unit has a single din body with only the screen being double din. I want to install a double din in my C5Z, but I dont want to cut the bracing inside and it looks like this may be a solution. I'm hoping somebody with more knowledge would be able to chime in before I make any purchases.

I guess the screen slides out? It should work then, I have seen these installed, just need to use a filler plate.

Not quite, I actually found a side picture of it, package actually comes with an adapter cage to turn a double din into a single din lol, also concerned with how this would line up...

Not going to fit flush in a din and a half opening without modifications.
Plus the XAV-AX100 is waayyy over hyped.

I was planning on getting a double din bezel, just dont want to cut the metal bracing inside.

you wont need to cut the bracket with this radio but would want to go double din on bezel for a perfect fitment with no gaps on sides and to keep radio face from hanging down into the hvac area

It's no big deal to remove the brace, just drill out four rivets with a 90 degree drill or a dremel. If for some reason you wanted to put it back just use flat-head machine screws. Regardless of what you do, call Dennis at Double D!

It's not hard to remove the brace

Even some single din radios require it to be removed (or at least bent) to install them, but it mostly depends on the installation adapter that you get. If your mounting plate centers the radio or has it on the top half, then you shouldn't have to touch the bracket. If mount has radio on bottom half, the bracket has to go.
