Re: Boston Acoustics Z6 and Z5 Speakers (bogus)
Excellent speakers, I had 4 Z6's in my TA and when I traded my TA on the Z06 I had them moved to the Z06. They could not fit the Z6's in the rear so they swapped the rear into Z5's which are basically the same. So in the end I have Z6's in the front and Z5's in the rear.
The odd thing is that I am not happy with the sound like I was happy with the same exact equipment in my TA.
That is why I am looking at remounting the tweeters elseware, I dont seem to have the dynamic highs I had before and the sound seems sort of compressed unless I really crank it.
I am a very picky audiophile in both my house and in my car.

nothing wrong with being picky.
There are different acouistical properties of each car... so you may want to manipulate the crossovers so the tweets are a bit hotter.
also, check any crossover points that are set on the amp, what works on one car may not work on another.

...also there may be more road/engine noise in the Z06 so the speaker sound is affected.

I'm looking to get a set of Z6's to put in the doors on my POS Lumina...I've heard them in store, but never in a car.
Can anyone give me a comparison of them to say...JL XR's, CDT HD's, or MB Quart Q's?

I like the Z6 componets very much.
However, I have had some time lately w/ Kicker's new SS componets. I have listened to these back to back on the same material, and my ear tends to like the Kickers. Now granted, this is an MSRP $1100 set, but that's just $100 over the Z6's.
The new Kicker's are a very good speaker.

what I am learning is that just about every major audio brand is coming out with ultra-highend drivers that use.... PAPER CONES.
Or, coated paper... or carbonfiber infused paper... with super rigid cast-aluminum baskets and killer magnets.
See the trend? Paper cones are the best. They are the warmest, most natural sounding cone material available.
For a while, everyone was going poly-carbonate or plastics or even carbon fiber, aluminum and titanium!!!!!!! It really didn't work.
Give me a silk dome tweeter... and a paper cone... any day of the week!!!
