Changing a blue Costco model to RED!
I was shopping at Costco a few weeks ago and they had a bunch of models that just came in. Several base Stingray models in white as well as white and blue Z51 models. The only problem is that I have a torch red car and really wanted red.
So I decided to buy a blue one and make it red. It's taking quite a long time because I work on it when I have time and I don't always have time, but here is my progress so far:
The donor car:
got it home and started taking everything off:
Put everything in bags to keep it safe:
Paint stripping process, this took longer than expected, some of this paint did not want to come off.
One of the doors after the base coat.
comparison of a stripped door and painted door:
first coats of Torch Red applied, the doors have first coat of clear on them in these pics:
close up of body with base coat:
doors getting more clear coat
I painted the rear spoiler and mirrors carbon flash:
another of the car with base coat
test fitting a door
First coats of clear on the body:
installing mirror to door
another shot of clear coat on body
to do the carbon flash, I bought the four in one touch up paint and did the mirrors, rear spoiler, hood vent and front grille.
The interior has competition seats, but in tan color, so I am doing those in black to match mine.
Still need to start piecing things back together and do final touches and it will be done.

I repainted a C6 coupe Crystal Red Metallic. A lot of work but it came out ok. I did not strip the original paint but simply sanded it with a fine sandpaper.

Lookin' good, can't wait to see the finished Vette. As soon as I get time I plan on doing the same thing. I've grabbed several of the $15 C7s from Sam's Club and one will become red. Honestly I'm surprised Maisto hasn't released them in the most obvious of Corvette colors. Of course now that we're doing repaints they probably will!
The C7 is definitely a fun car to mod!
