Default Need Compressed Air Impact Wrench Recc

Got my lift and air jacks at my house, so I'd like to be able to have an air impact wrench to knock off the wheels. I often bring the compressor to HPDE's so I could use the impact wrnch at track if needed. Do any of the members have a recc and source to buy new impact wrench? thx guys

I've used a few over the years and by far the best that was a rebuilt Snap On. I'll try to look up the model number but got it for a great deal from the local Snap On driver. He would sell refurb units all the time and always had a few on his truck. Price was about half of what the new ones were going for. Sold it a few years ago when I needed the money. Really, really wish I had it back. Similar to ratchets, Torque wrenches in that when you buy a high quality one, the tool will last a long, long time.

If your primary need is to remove wheels, then get an cordless impact tool; you will want it at the track. My Dewalt was perfect for the vette but struggled with lug nuts on the truck...then santa brought a Snap-on cordless last year; holy crap that thing has torque.

I've used a Sears "Professional" series 1/2" drive impact wrench for about ten years. If I recall correctly, it has around 650 ft/lbs of torque. I'm careful to keep it lubed and use it about every weekend in the summer. Never had a problem with it.

Good to know. My Craftsman cordless I have now usually will not get the lugs off. I use a breaker bar then the cordless.

I have one of these that I use every day for the past 5 years as a mechanic. Keep these metal guns lubed once in a while and they run forever, I run ATF thru mine, a few drops a day. Then some grease for the internals a couple times a year.

All my air tools are IR, the only way to roll. My experience with Snap On air tools=Junk and over priced, WAY over priced.

I especially like the power settings and how the trigger is also available to go slow/fast hi/lo power.

Default Impacts

I have a 2100G series Ingersoll-Rand 1/2" drive air wrench, light weight composite case, lots of torque. $100 new at swap meet. Really like.

Cordless 18 volt DeWalt, 300 ft lbs torque, large, a little heavy. Nearly $300. Bought used at pawn shop. $125.
Also have a couple 18 volt DeWalt, 130 ft lbs torque, small, light weight. $150 retail. Bought for $100 at Christmas promotion. Will remove lug nuts torqued to 100 lbs. Really like.

Hope this helps.

Add another to the chorus. I had to rebuild it once over the past 20 years. Use a drier on your supply line, oil it periodically, and you'll love it.

BTW, on the cordless impact guns, I always loosen my lug nuts with a breaker bar, then use my gun (3/8" Cornwell) to spin them off and back on.

Have a good one,
Mike

I've got a chicago pneumatic I bought off one of the tool trucks 40 years ago. Still works fine and has never been rebuilt. It was always the strongest gun in the shop where ever i worked.

I have an older version of this Harbor Frieght one. I think i paid $65 with one of their 20 or 30% off coupons. I haven't found a bolt it can't take off yet. My only complaint is it is a bit heavy.

I just got the inersoll rand 7150-k2 1/2 inch cordless impact gun. Serious torque. John shiels wouldn't like it cause its made in China

For air I just got the M7 1/2 inch impact. It's very small alnd fits perfect to take off caliper bolts. I power it with a nitrogen cylinder

I bough that to save my SnapOn from wear and tears and the decision on the IR was its spec. I don't have specs on the old SnapOn, but IIRC, it fall short of the IR.

However, the trusty SnapOn came thru everytime the IR failed.

Another thing, I prefer not to use impacts - of which I have accumulated many in my past life. The only occasion I use impact is when fastener is stubborn, I use it only to the point of breaking free - and hand job the rest of the way.

It is certainly neat to operate an impact, but I've learned better and understand the damage it could lead to.

---

For air tool longevity, it should have an inline filter, regulator and auto oiler setup. The oiler set to meter 3 drops/minutes.
