Jim, Whats up we still have big plans for that car. I know we had talked about it but I did not think you were serious about selling.

Everyone, this is a super nice race car and very very fast.

Wow, what a great setup! Tons of upgrades...

I do remember seeing the crash video. Did you guys figure out what caused the rear to lock up like that?

Not 100% but 99%. The trans reverse syncro hub broke and the trans engaged reverse while it was in gear.

Jim, don't take this the wrong way, but it appears the wing is mounted backwards on the car. The canted span wing is designed so the decreased angle-of-attack span section should be along the leading edge of the wing. The way the wing is currently mounted the centerline of the wing has the highest angle-of-attack, not the smallest.

Here is an example of a similar wing on the LGM GT2 car:
http://www.wildvettes.com/images/NOD...~0%20Large.JPG

Based on the amount of angle on the wing in the photos it looks like it was struggling to make rear downforce. By turning the wing around you should pick up quite a bit of downforce and decrease drag.

Again, I hope you didn't take offense to my post. Good luck with the sale.

Wow, astute observation! You are absolutely correct. The body shop mounted the wing backwards and we didn't catch it. I noticed that it didn't look quite right but moved on to other issues and never considered it again.

You are also correct on the handling. After the first couple of passes at VIR, I had to add more angle because the rear did not feel planted over the rise on the back straight. I attributed that to the World Challenge front end and hood.
Thanks!
Jim

In addition, the active handling system has been shown to fail badly on the 2006-2009 Z's so there a slight probability that that could have caused the crash.

But here's the thing: The crash did not cause the transmission damage but the transmission damage could have caused the crash.

The transmission had heat stickers on it that indicated the case temperature exceeded 330*F.

Holy Batman, looking at the picture it is clear as day. Didn't even notice it when the car was here. I guess we were so focused on mechanical issues we were not even looking or guessing the body shop could have done that. Jim that fixes the handling issue, however it was mounted the correct way when the car was wrecked.

This is kinda funny... I sent the wing out to have some minor CF repair. They flipped the end plates when they reassembled the wing. When the body shop reinstalled the wing, they probably just held it up to the car are thought "Hey, this looks right". I'm really surprised that nobody at either the VIR or Road Atlanta events noticed this.

It corrected now and does look one heck of a lot better!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm looking at getting the Blackdog bumper and undertray for my Z06. WOndering if the seller (or buyer if sold) has any feedback on those items. Quality/fit, how the undertray was mounted etc.
Thanks,
Pete

Pete,
I've still got the car. Best just to give me a call when you've got some time to talk. I like the parts but the installation is challenging. I've PM's my phone no.
