Default Full Race report, LG Motorsports Speed World Challenge West Coast races

Hi Guys,

I am sure that some of you have already heard that the LG Pro Long Tube Corvette C6 just pulled two wins in a row.

With Me driving at Infineon, we broke the Corvette losing streak of 25 races and won the 7th round of the SCCA World Challenge GT series. We won from the pole, with a new track record time of 139.1 and a new race record with no full course yellows. I had a great battle with Wolf Henzler from Germany, in his Porsche GT3 cup car with ALMS engine. We raced side by side for many laps until he made a mistake. At that point the other LG header equipped C6 of Leighton Reese and the Porsche made slight contact that resulted in flat tires for both cars.

That left me with a 13 second lead that I just maintained till the finish. I never lost the lead in our quest for our first win of the 2005 season.

I will now have to carry an extra 75 pounds for my next WC race.

THen on to Portland where we put Dino Crescentini in the car. Dino came on board as my team mate for the Portland event. He helped with funding of the West coast swing in exchange for the driving duties for Portland.

Dino also races in the Touring class of the Speed World Challenge series. He qualified his Touring car on the outside pole for Portland, and he just came from a Podium finish at Infineon.

Dino put the car in 4th place in qualifying. This was a perfect place to be with the LG Header equipt Leighton Reese C6 on the pole and 2 Porsche in 2nd and 3rd.
At the standing start, Dino moved into 3rd place and stayed there to conserve his tires. He then moved into 2nd place behind the Porsche of Wolf Henzler for a couple of laps. Dino took the lead with about 8 laps to go, and he held on for a 1.78sec win over the Reese Corvette C6 (with LG Headers on) finishing 2nd and the Porsche GT3 cup car in 3rd. The Viper of Tommy Archer was 4th.

So we did the double on the west coast. We hope to have Dino on our team for the full 2006 season.

Thanks guys.

In car Video will be up soon for both west coast races at www.LGMracing.com
You can watch 4 of our other races right now on that site.

Cool video on a track I know. I let off the throttle on the downhill just after the bridge and you extend it a bit further and are going faster. Cool when Archer left the door open and he got punted. Evens up Cleveland. You car handles better than his in the corners for sure. Nice RPMs. Edith ask if I was nuts with the volume up and eating dinner watching it. The dogs left the room also. Can't wait for the rest

Congrat on the wins. I am also pleased that you all are able to post up the in-car videos. Thanks again and good luck, I never miss a race and am always at Sebring each year!

Lou,

Glad you made the west coast trip. Good job to you and your team. It looks like Leighton and Wolf are your closest challengers right now.

Hopefully SCCA Pro Racing will not make a competition adjustment to the Corvette. I read somewhere that Leighton said he though that maybe the Corvettes where going to be getting the "lead trophy" pretty soon. It would be good if they see what the rewards weight does. They sure took the speed out of the Cadillac with the competition adjustment they gave them.

Best of luck the rest of the season.

Next race, I will carry 95 pounds of extra weight. the Porsche gains 45 for his 3rd place but he already had 80 so he will be at 125 pounds over. Leighton gains 60 for his secons but he had no weight before.

The Cadillac will all lose rewards weight plus I would expect SCCA to take back the 100 extra pounds they put on them recently.

The Viper is already fast it is just playing games with the rules and there will be no way to stop it from winning the championship.

All in all the next race will be a barn burner. I think the Porsche and Viper will have the edge at Denver. then depending on how much weight we gain at Denver, then Mosport will be a real good race for us.

thanks

That someplace was probably TheRaceSite.com where the World Challenge Series is covered in complete detail and we even remember the names of all of the drivers!

quote in question

Portland World Challenge GT race report

As far as adjustments go I think you can almost count on adjustments being made. Hopefully they will adjust the Cadillac and Vipers as the Porsche and Corvette are pretty even right now.

Hi Jim,

I will agree that they need to adjust the Caddy, but the Viper is at a level greater than Sebring and St Pete where they won both races, uncontested.

The Viper is now in a position to sweep the remaining 3 races if they so choose. They won't but they will just beat Pilgrim to the championship.

I don't agree with the way they race. they have mastered the art of deception. Only they can't deceive me.

And a fine job you do at TheRaceSite.com of covering the World Challenge.
