Car vibrations turning my video off.
Hi guys,
I'm trying to make a video at the track with my Sony DVR DVD205 mounted on my harness bar but it keeps turning off after the first couple of minutes. Any recommendations?

Is your camera bracket solid mounted to the bar? If so, use something to insulate the mount from the bar. I slit some hose (big 2 inch diameter clear stuff I found at Home Depot), wrapped the bar with that, then tightened the camera mount around the insulator. Video was steady as a rock, even with a true race car with no rubber in the suspension, etc. Also, you didn't mention what camera mount you were using, I had an IO Port mount, which stayed pretty steady. maybe take a look at that. Hope that offers some help.

Jersey's reply also reminded me - I also used the red tie down that came with the IO port mount to hold the camera to the roll bar. It's meant just as a safety strap in case something comes loose, but I found that really tightening that strap helped to steady the camera as well, probably similar to the tape that jersey is using. Good luck.

I have an I/0 port mount and the same camera. I dont use the red strap as that was too tight and seem to add extra vibration
Also check your mounts on the b-piller.
I found by having the camera focused at infintiy and not autofocus helps

Any recommendations on that? My camera records directly to DVD, so it is digital; but still has a motor that could be affected by vibrations.

I bought a sony DCR-DVD-203 and dam thing does the same thing POS. I am back using the old one with the tape which never fails. I guess the digital hard drive ones are better? Then the disc are only 30 minutes which is a PITA. No long mini disc is available?

Of all the ones I've tried, the tape (Mini-Dv) seem to be the best ones out there for in-car stuff. Mine has never shut off, and god knows I've hit some serious bumps! ha ha
