Never buy a used harness system no matter what. Harnesss stretch and sun light degrades the strenght of the webbing.

Get the most current and strongest FIA rating with a cam lock. No latch & link.

Polyester is the stonger system.

My personal favorite is Schroth. One of the smallest (if not the smallest) cam lock + buckle sizes. Top notch adjusters that don't slip. Lightweight too. Their 2" FIA lap belts really help with the comfort factor too plus provide better protection sitting down lower and getting closer to your pelvis.

Nothing wrong with latch-link...just convenience.

I used them, but got a set of cam locks.

Latch will never jam. Good in a boat if you are upside down in the dark underwater with 10 seconds Few times I thought my cam was engaged but one popped out. That won't happen with a latch./

Most race orginzations tech rules dont allow Latch & Link any more.

Not that they dont work, they work great.

Here's strength vs age graph from the main Schroth website:

My next set is going be "Hybrid" with 2" lap belts. The most comfortable 6 point setup you can buy not to mention being world leaders in safety equipment (from NASCAR to F1 to Aviation & Military applications).

No chance of them jamming like a cam lock.

IMHO, choose an FIA rated belt system.

Default Thanks

Thanks everyone for helping.

Does this mean SFI 16.1 rating is worse than FIA or just different?

What are the disadvantages to Polyester belts?

I would still like to see video or data showing load and stretch of both. I welcome posts or PMs from vendors.

Thanks.

The SFI and FIA spec are linked there but I can't seem to find an english copy of the FIA spec.

I remember the seat ads in the back of Racecar Engineering the chicks were totally naked the Euro's have a totally different attitude when it comes to these things.

BTW Why are belts made of either Nylon or Polyester, I'd prefer something that didn't MELT!
How about a Nylon or Kelvar core surrounded by Nomex?

Very odd, especially considering there have been issues with camlocks jamming when supporting the occupants weight upside down in a car...

I will stick with my latch-and-links, thanks.
