Default Brake pads for Autocross only

Well, it looks like my run with the PFC Z-rated pads is coming to an end, as PFC is apparently not making pads with that material anymore (at least for C5s).

I really like the Z-rated pads because they had good braking without needing a lot of heat in them like the more aggressive track pads need.

So, for autocross only, what pads are out there? Hawk HP+ is about the only other pad I've seen being used autocrossing, and I'm not a fan of the Hawk's depositing crud on your wheels.

TIA, and have a good one,
Mike

Wilwood H's have excellent cold bite(high cf), then get even better after a couple of corners. Not cheap though, and not the easiest on rotors. Some wilwood compound comparisons below. E's are the equivalent of a good street/mild track pad for starters.

Take a look at Carbotechs, easy on rotors (but lots of dust) and they work well even when cold.

Which Carbotechs, specifically? I'd much rather go on personal experience than marketing data.

Thanks for all the replies; keep 'em coming!

I'm happy with my Hawk HP+. An instructor friend who drove my car in a school was impressed by their bite. I find that they're not TOO noisy and that they're not MUCH more dusty than OEM. FWIW....

I recently ran a SS class Z06 with the Carbotech Panther + and really liked them. Good cold bite, nice feel. Hawks are a good value, but tend to be noisy and dusty. Frankly, for a Z06 I'd just as soon use the oem pads...

I agree too. Stock Z06 pads work very well. They feel like Hawk HP+. And they do dust. But you can wash it off after and not have your wheels permanently stained with that FE material Hawks leave behind.

I haven't tried the Carbotech Panthers but I have a set of XP8s front and rear. I use them for track but also on the street. They are good cold and with a little bit of heat bite really hard. The Panther might be a better choice for autox since it does spec out to require a bit less heat.

Stock Z06 pads are fine. Heck, they may actually be HP+ with a GM part number. When running the Wilwood front calipers I have started to use the Wilwood E pads for autocross but they dust like mad. Even had some smart alec comments about brake squeal since they make a lot of noise.

I was using the XP=10's on the front and the XP-8's on the rear and was very happy with them!

I've got a set of C5 front Carbotech Super Street F compound pads that are several years old and were quite popular for autocrossing. I don't AX anymore and they won't hold up on track days.

Brand new. $80 + shipping if you're interested.

I'm using HP+. My street wheels are black and I don't care much about dust on my race wheels. I'm probably going to need another set before the end of the year, so glad to hear the info here.

Those are the most mis-matched set of tires I've ever managed to cobble together. R's, A's, S03, S04, S05. I just finally put together one entire run without totally blowing one corner or another.

TedDBere had a spare set of Z-rated pads he's sending to me, so I'm good for at least the rest of the season.

Think I'm also going to go back to running street pads when I'm not racing; they sure are nice on the road though.

Thanks for all the replies. Hopefully this will help out some other folks needing autox pads.

Have a good one,
Mike
