Default I went ahead and cut the radiator shroud

It was easy... took maybe an hour start to finish. I used my craftsman rotary tool a few destroyed cutting wheels, a cutting drill bit tool, and a grinding wheel to smooth it all out, they all came w/ the generic attachments kit to the rotary (dremel tool)

Thanks for the example pic Randy.

Massive weight reduction and 76 more rwhp

Allows more airflow through the radiator at speed. Randy at DRM suggested it, they do it to their cars.

Is there any downside as to how well do the fans work when you're sitting still?

Nice cutting job, BTW.

Have a good one,
Mike

Well somone sait it might not allow the fans to work as well when stopped becaue the shround doesn't seal anymore... said the '97 shround actually has flaps in it so that at speed they open but when sitting still hte shround still seals.

W/ a stock (bolt-on only) motor and a dewitts radiator w/ re-programmed fans I'm sure I'll have no problems w/ cooling on track or in traffic.

Thanks for the compliment... I tried to take my time and make it look good.

It does look very trick and I guess if you are serious racer, this might be some benefit for high speed driving but for regular street cars it could be a problem.
When you are at idle, parades, or slow traffic you rely on the fans to "suck" the air through the radiator. The tighter the seal between the fans and the radiator, the more air you will pull through. If the air can free flow through these holes, it wouldn't pull it through the core. This is why companies use the flapper checks.

^ Wonder if I can cut some rubber material to size and rivent it and make my own flapper setup.

Randy have you guys done this mod to any street driven cars? Any overheat issues?

Ok... so did I F up being as my car is still mostly street driven?

I'm thinking the new radiator etc will still be able to keep things cool.

What if we sold a kit with (6) six flaps, three on each side? We could include a metal template for cutting out the correct holes. $25

The problem with making flaps for what you have now is that the air would just suck them in too. See the little gusset that we have . Without that little piece, the flaps would go in.

I picked up a customer at the airport in about 100 degree weather. Sitting on 494 for an hour going 0-5 mph. The 600 horsepower car got to 215 water. Yes the fans were on, but they should be. AC was on full cold.
