Tow hooks for C5s
Us Corvette guys got chastized this weekend at MSR for not having tow hooks (takes too long to pull us in if we have troubles).
So... it's time.
What do you guys do? Where do you actually attach them?
I did a search and found this http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...light=tow+hook
Is this what everyone does? Is assembly straightforward?
Thanks for any pointers!

Warning though... As soon as you put them on, you'll have to be towed back to the pits for something!!!!! I went well over 5 years of never having to be towed, and the event after I attached the tow hooks, the fan belt broke and I had to be towed back to the pits. Figures. ha ha

So these are weld on or bolt on? I ask because I'm no welder.
thanks for the fast replies!

I found the other way. I was towed in a few times and as soon as I put them on.
I just found it easery to take the nose off. I have the nose off in about 20 min or less. That way I was not fighting with it.
Make sure it is secure and try to pull your car with a hook or something attached to the tow hook.

They bolt OR weld on. If you bolt them on, you have to remove the front and rear fascias to remove the crash foam from the bumpers before putting the bolts in (yes, you reinstall the foam). Weld-in does not require the removal.

When you do remove the front fascia and the front foam material, take a peek inside the front frame member that you are bolting to... the build sheet for the car is rolled up and stuck in there.

While I'm thinking about it...
I've got some pictures from the installation of the Phoenix hooks on my 2000 coupe, and another set when I transferred them to the 2002 Z06.
If you are interested in seeing what's involved, e-mail me and I'll send you some pics.

I found one there on my FRC when we attached the tow hooks (bolted on).
It was not bad at all to pull the front and rear fascia to bolt on the hooks - have not needed them yet especially if you combine it with putting in DRM ducts....

Drifting
I bolted in my rears and fronts without removing the bumpers. The hardest part was tapping the front frame rail for the 3 bolts(two didn't seem like enough), not much room to work in there. I had to remove my radiator shroud to reach up to the frame rail.

Just curious, does anyone make a set that is somewhat removable? I'm thinking that the main part is always in place, but you put a bolt through to attach the hook portion. That way you don't always have a hook showing (for those of us that like to do HPDEs but also drive on the street)?
