Default big brake questions, ap front, c5 stock front on rear

getting the car ready for track day and noticed leakage from within the front calipers. the car has been sitting idle for a couple months--is that common or do I have a bad problem on my hands? not a severe leak, just a little drip and doesn't seem to drip noticably with brake pressure.

also, with this setup, is a bigger master a *must* or will factory master suffice for a mild track day?

with regard to the leak, are there rebuild kits available or do I need to disassemble and piece it together? I tried looking for the part #, I believe it's rippie's ap-front kit, but couldn't find any #'s with the calipers mounted and haven't taken them off yet.

Any kind of brake leak is a major issue. Check the lines and the connections to see where its coming from. Also check the seals in the calipers as fluid will leak past them if they are shot.

The seal is a very simple job. You can get the part at Kragens, Autozone, etc. You won't need to replace the dust boot, so that makes it simpler. It is a good opportunity to get Speedbleeders because you will need to get a flush and bleed afterwards. As stated earlier, check all the lines for the source of the leak. A moist piston is a sure sign of a seal issue. I have had a partially torn seal maintain hydraulic pressure yet leak.

I believe they're the same as rippie's 6-pot front kit.

Check to make sure. If they are great.

AP and Brembo also make some 6 pots that are marginal at best. and want ppl to buy them baised on the NAME alone, not the strength of caliper.

Many of the cheap ( relatively) 6-pots I have driven are horrable. the Stock PBR caliper stops far better.

I think you will need the bigger master or you will have a long pedal. Check all the fittings. They look wet but under braking will dump more fluid on track. I had the elbow into the Wilwood caliper leak, it need snugged up. Wet the rim fairly well but tight when sitting. If you need seals for the AP's get a serial number off them and call DRM or measure diameter.

talked with randy, rebuild time.

thanks everybody for the input. especially randy, www.dougrippie.com --always makes time for me. the modest few mods I've gotten from you don't warrant all the help you've given, really appreciate it.

Sorry John, but thats not the case at all. See you on Friday, by the way make sure you have some room for more tires and wheels. I guess you know about that already.
