Default Verts and Road Racing ?

I'm thinking about getting into either a C5 Z or a C6 vert. Can you road race a vert?

I did a search and didn't find any info....

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

AFAIK, most tracks require verts to be equipped with roll bars for insurance purposes

EVERY track I have been to requires roll cages for verts. Do you want a roll cage in a street car driving down the highway? Get a C5Z06 and you'll never look back

If you plan on tracking the car, do yourself a favor right way. Buy a hardtop!!! Way better in every way.

Thanks for the advice guys!

My last vette was an '02 vert. The open air is great but I'm probably going to want to track the new one a bit more.

C5Z it is!!

For track days and autocrosses, it can be done. I faced a crossroads this year between keeping my vert or trading for a Z. I decided on keeping the vert. I just enjoy putting the top down too much. YMMV.

Don't you mean roll BAR. A cage would be overkill.

I have a Vert & I am facing this problem right now. Getting a roll bar is easy, gettting one to comply with SCCA Solo I to run HPDE events is becoming a PITA. If I was going to have a car for primarily the track, I would go hard top. But since I love top down driving, I will figure a way to get the roll bar made.

actull W2W racing requires a roll cage, with NASCAR door bars. TT and track days and HPDEs a Roll bar that can take the weight of a 3100 lb vette.

Every club is slightly differnt, but if you go with the SCCA Solo I spec for a roll bar you should pass tech for any if not all car clubs.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Sully, I read the other thread. Thanks for posting it!

I'm an easy going guy and those roll bar requirements did NOT look easy!

I think I'm still going to go with a C5 Z. I've had my fun in my vert, I think I'll try the hardtop for awhile

Don't shoot!!! Is that a MP5?

Back to the bottom line. The hardtop cars are much stiffer like John said. Plus they are safer in the event of a roll. I would rather put a hardtop car on it's roof without a bar in it, then a vert with a bar. Ideal would be to run a hardtop-with a bar. Wait, the ideal would be to keep the dirty side down.

Sit low no matter what car!

Aerodynamics might be better with coupe/hardtop vs. convertible, especially with top down.
