Default Doug Fehan: on ALMS GT1, Customer Teams and More

The article claims Corvettes have dominated the Le Mans Series, but they only had podiums in four of the five races this year and didn't win any races in 04 or 05.

Great Article! Thanks for the post. Makes you think how much longer they will stay in racing. They have come SO far and so many more people around the world know and are respecting Corvette. I ocasionally post on the Rennteam forum and even those guys are giving us the thumbs up! I think in order for GM to be seen as a competitive global brand, they need to have a "showcase" car(s), something that will bring attention to the rest of their brands.

“Right now, there is not a contract in place to support Corvette Racing in 2007.” Fehan stated.

may be over

The original source of the story may have been a team or ALMS press release; they tend to contain some hyperbole

We're talking about the European Le Mans Endurance Series, not ALMS

I have also read that GM/Chevrolet will start linking the Corvette with Chevrolet more heavily. Meaning it will have a more prominent bowtie on it somewhere. Since racing the C6R in ALMS and in Europe seems like a good way to build sales of all Chevrolets I wouldn't be surprised if they extended.

On the other hand, it does seem like with all the weight restrictions and only the Astons to run against they have good reasons to quit after this year.

I for one hope GM has the foresight to not kill a program that has already led to a streetable 427ci motor and will pay off in many other ways in development of later C6s and C7s. Running overseas isnt going to get the same corporate or enthusiast attention as would running in the U.S.

I do see them trying to force ALMS's hand about the competition rules being in place before next season starts.

I hope they don't pull out before I get the chance to see them run Le Mans in person next year

Aren't both cars running the same weight at Laguna Seca?

Team SRT is wanting to switch form Belcar to LMS next year.

They are running the same weight.. but the C6.R has a smaller restrictor (1.1mm smaller I believe) than the regs call for...

Luc Alphand is pondering getting a C6.R for 2007.
