Default Grinding sound after autoX run

...I never have luck finding the source of mysterious sounds coming from my car, but I'm hoping that someone else has had this happen to them too. Anyways, I was at my last AutoX event of the year this past weekend and after making my 2nd run I heard a horrible grinding sound coming from the front of the car. My 1st thought was that something in the suspension had broken and was grinding, when I didn't see anything I started to think wheel bearings, so I drove back over to my trailer and jacked up the car to check the bearings. As I was driving over, the noise stopped, but I went ahead and checked everything out. There was no play in the wheels and everything rotated freely, so I continued on and finished my runs. 2 days later, still no problems, so I counting myself lucky, but does anyone have any idea what it was? Best I can tell is a rock got thrown up into something and worked its way loose.

on a side note: even if you're in a rush, don't touch hot brakes. They will burn you and it doesn't feel good.

Could have gotten a pebble tossed up into the caliper and rubbed against the rotor until it worked its way out.

This would be my guess as well, I've experienced the same.
